Star Wars: The Clone Warsis one of the most well-roundedStar Warsprojects that allows for character development and for storylines to play out, but there’s one opportunity they definitely missed out on.The Clone Warsallowed audiences to get to know characters featured in theStar Warsprequel trilogy as well as characters new to the show.

In particular,The Clone Warsdid a great job of introducing audiences to clones, making them some of the most beloved characters in all ofStar Wars.

Star Wars- The Clone Wars - Poster

There were very few clones that audiences got to spend time with in the prequel movies, so not only did audiences get to know these characters, but they also got to see how they fit in with other characters, likeObi-Wan Kenobiand Anakin Skywalker.

However, 5 years afterThe Clone Wars’ series finale, I still thinkStar Warsmissed a major opportunity when it comes to fan-favorite clone Commander Cody.

Commander Cody Should Have Been As Involved As Captain Rex

Especially In the Later Seasons

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one ofThe Clone Wars’ main characters, soit’s odd that Commander Cody, who was Kenobi’s right-hand man, was missing from so much of the series. Meanwhile, Anakin Skywalker’s right-hand,Captain Rex, could be seen as one of the main characters, and was certainly the most prominent clone in the entire series.

When Cody does appear, it always seems fairly superficial, almost as ifhe’s appearing so that audiences remember that he’s simply thereand the show didn’t forget about him. This is especially true inThe Clone Warsseason 7.

In the first arc ofThe Clone Warsseason 7, Cody is the one to introduce Rex and company toClone Force 99, or the Bad Batch. However,in the first part of the four-episode arc, he’s injuredand isn’t heard from again. This lack of depth ultimately hurts the character.

The Clone Wars Should Have Done Better By Commander Cody

There’s Still Time, But It May Be Too Late

With a show that was supposed to show the full breadth of the Clone Wars, I wish that Lucasfilm had spent more time with one of the few clones we already knew in Cody. Cody is a fan-favorite clone for a reason, andnot developing his character further feels like a disservice to the fans who care so much about him.

While Cody didn’t need to constantly appear, it would’ve been nice to see him and Obi-Wan together a little more to further develop their relationship, like Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano’s relationship with Captain Rex.

Commander Cody will continue to be one of my favorite clones, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want more for his character. At the very least,The Clone Warsshould’ve seen Cody be as involved in the show’s plots as Rex was. While the little bit we have of Cody inThe Clone Warsis good, the sky was the limit for him, butStar Warsmissed the mark.
