A New D&D Game From Giant Skull & WOTC Has Been Announced

D&D Will Get A New Game After Baldur’s Gate 3

After the development deal between Larian Studios and Wizards of the Coast ended,it seems to be far from overfor the IP in the video game space. Respawn Entertainment previously worked onStar Wars Jedi: SurvivorandFallen Order, both directed by Asmussen, andthat series has come to a close. Giant Skull was founded in 2023, and Asmussen has some work history with the current Wizards of the Coast chief and digital gaming president at Hasbro, John Hight.

Speaking about the relationship between Wizards of the Coast and Giant Skull, Hight said he was"happy"to be reuniting with his former Sony Santa Monica co-worker; both men worked together onGod of War(2005). Hight also feels Giant Skull is the perfect studio to pick up theD&Dvideo game mantle from Larian Studios, saying:“In our time working together on ‘God of War I’ got to see firsthand Stig’s artistry and expertise, and he and the Giant Skull team are the perfect fit for our new game."

Our Take: A Single-Player Focus Like BG3 Sounds Great

There’s A Lot Of Opportunity For New D&D Games

BG3took the gaming world by storm in 2023 and has gone on to be widely regardedas one of the greatest RPGs ever madefor its faithfulness toD&D, its deep characters, engaging narrative, creative turn-based combat, and immersive RPG mechanics. Larian Studios confirmed it wouldnot be developing any sequels or DLC forBG3, so the future of that series, as well as other D&D video games, was in question for a while.

Now that a new single-playerD&Dgame is officially in the works, there’s even moreD&Dcontent to look forward to. It’s unknown if this project is a sequel toBG3or an entirely original IP based onD&D, but either way, Hight and Giant Skull seem excited about this collaboration, andBG3fans will have anotherDungeons & Dragonsgame to look forward to, even if it seems like it’s a long ways off.
