Kane’s posting features what looks to be an episode script, a laptop sporting a Jason sticker and a notebook. The script is a notable item, as its inclusion confirms that at least one production draft has been completed. The date on the script reads “17-08-2025,” indicating that Kane finished work on the draft back in March. Kane includes a caption which reads:
Crystal Lake Production offices are live. It’s all happening. MACHETES FOR EVERYONE!
What This Means For Crystal Lake
It’s A Comeback For Friday The 13th
The long-running slasher franchise spent years in limbo thanks to legal issues surrounding rights, but much like the iconic hockey-masked villain Jason,Friday the 13this impossible to kill. With legalities finally sorted out, 2022 saw the announcement ofCrystal Lake, withHannibal’s Bryan Fuller taking the reins as showrunner. Optimism turned to doubt, however, after Fuller exited the project in early 2024.
Friday the 13thfinal girl Adrienne King was reported to be joiningCrystal Lake, but it’s not known if she continues to be involved.
Reports ofCrystal Lake’s demise proved premature, though, as A24 remained interested in the prequel project despite Fuller’s departure, quickly tappingWelcome to Derry’s Kane as the new showrunner. In addition to bringingStephen King’s haunted Maine town to life via hisITprequel series, Kane revealed in a statement that he’s long been aFriday the 13thfan, further establishing his horror genre credibility:
From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask. Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than ‘Friday The 13th.’ I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.

More News Should Be Coming Soon
The only casting news thus far revealed aboutCrystal LakeannouncedFreaks and Geeksstar Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees. After Kane’s latest social media tease, it appears a filming start date is fast approaching, and it would not be surprising to see some news about that in the near future. Further casting news will also be coming along soon, presumably, including a revelation about who will be playing the child version of Jason.
The secrecy surroundingCrystal Lakeonly serves to build intrigue, but that veil of mystery should slowly begin to lift, as the project hits more milestones ahead of its eventual Peacock release. A24 seems committed to making the show happen, after bringing in Kane to replace Fuller. Hopefully, the show’s momentum is strong enough now to keep things rolling forward, allowing theFriday the 13thfranchise to finally emerge from its long hibernation, and bring the slashing back to screens, along with some new information about the origins of Pamela and Jason.
