I’m aLove Island USAlover, but after watching this season throughout the last few weeks,it’s clear there’s something major missing from the show that would make things infinitely better. ThroughoutLove Island USAseason 7, I’ve been watching closely as the Islanders have moved strangely in the villa. The season’s been fun for drama, but the relationships have felt off.

While I’ve been enjoyingLove Island USAseason 7 throughout, it’s been clear to me (and many vocal viewers online) that the cast has been moving a bit differently than others have in the past. Coming out ofLove Island USAseason 6, which saw genuine friendships and relationships built throughout the season, things were always going to be tough for the new cast.

Regardless of difficulty or producer interference,Love Island USAseason 7’s casthad the cards stacked against them, but were also equipped with everything possible to create a great season of reality TV. In doing so, however, their relationships have faltered and their understanding of what the show is supposed to be has slipped away entirely. Instead,we’re left with aLove Islandcompetition.

I Enjoy Love Island USA Season 7, But The Cast’s Not Cutting It

They’re Playing To Producers, Not Their Own Emotions

AlthoughLove Island USAseason 7’s cast is highly entertaining, they’re not cutting it when it comes to actually participating in the spirit of Love Island. Throughout the years,Love Island USA’sstatus as a competition series has shifted. While it’s always had a prize at the end,Love Island USA’salways meant to be more of a romantic experience than a competition.

WithLove Island USA’scast playing into the strategic competition side of the series, a lot of them aren’t making the strong connections they came to the show for. Instead,Islanders are foregoing the emotional connectionsthat the show has come to be known for. Despite the fact that viewers have been looking for emotional growth, the Islanders are interested in playing a game.

Love Island USA Season 7’s Cast Members Are Playing A Game

They’re Treating The Show Less Like An Experiment & More Like A Competition

AsLove Island USAseason 7 cast has moved through their time in the villa, they’ve treated the eliminations in their power more like a game than like a chance to move couples who are genuinely interested in getting to know each other forward.Eliminating Islanders like Charlie Georgiou, Hannah Fields, and Jeremiah Brown despite budding connectionsmakes it clear the Islanders are self-serving.

Despite knowing thatthe onus ofLove Island USAis to build genuine connections with the other Islanders and hopefully find love, the Islanders of this season have come to treat everything more competitively. By getting rid of other Islanders with connections they feel could help them win in the end,the cast has found a way to makeLove Island USAmore strategic.

The Double Standards On Love Island USA Season 7 Are Making The Cast Unbearable

No One Is Holding Themselves To The Standards They’re Holding Others To

AlthoughLove Island USAhas come to find its footing this season, I’m struggling to stay supportive of the Islanders after seeing the double standards they hold over others' behavior. Islanders like Chelley Bissainthe, who’s been connected with Ace Greene all season, have held people like Huda Mustafa to different standards, creating a divide. They’ve built a difficult system this season.

Whilesome Islanders, like Amaya Espinal, have been welcoming and kind to the majority of their castmates, others have struggled to give them the grace they all deserve. As part of a reality TV dating series, theLove Island USAcast should be meeting each other with grace. Instead, the Islanders having these double standards has madeLove Island USAseason 7 worse for wear.

Love Island USAairs every night at 9 p.m. EDT on Peacock, except Wednesdays.
