Twitch has been dominated recently by some indie titles lately, and seemingly everyone has been queuing to sleuth their way through Innersloth’s hit,Among Us. Due to the game’s success, Innersloth planned to develop a sequel, but today the development team has decided to cancelAmong Us 2and shift its focus back to the first game.

In a blog post on Innersloth’s Itch.io page, the development team laid out its plans forAmong Usgoing forward, after canceling the recently announcedAmong Us 2. Innersloth mentions that the initial decision to pursue a sequel was due toAmong Us’codebase being outdated, which would prove difficult to work with.Among Us 1is being played by over a million players at a time, so Innersloth is said to be putting its focus on Among Us 1 instead of developing a sequel.

Innersloth had already announced new additions and features that would have been coming toAmong Us 2,but since the game has been canceled, the team has committed to adding those new features toAmong Us 1.Among Us 2was going to add several fan-requested featuresincluding a higher player count and new roles for players, but now that will be worked into the first game. Innersloth mentions that this may end up being a more difficult choice which will take reworking several parts of the game’s core code.

The blog post also details several features that will be making their way toAmong Usin the future. Innersloth has mentioned the team is working on the game’s server issues, as the servers are being hammered with tons of players jumping intoAmong Usconstantly. Also, Innersloth is looking to add colorblind support, a friend and account system, plus a new stage that has just entered early development.

For the uninitiated,Among Usis an imposter-type gamesimilar toWerewolfstyled games where, out of a group of players, two are marked as imposters tasked with killing other crewmates. Crewmates must deduce who is responsible for killing their allies and gain the support of survivors to vote out potential imposters. Videos featuring groups of friends playing together have began to go viral, leading to an unexpected amount of a success for the game.

Among Ushas been a hit with Twitch streamers as the top channels on the platform are playing together and pulling in massive viewer counts. The success of the game through streaming channels has led to over41 million mobile downloads forAmong Usthis month, which is up from roughly 18 million downloads throughout the month of August. Before the rise in popularity,Among Uswas seeing numbers in the 1 million range for mobile downloads.
