The most hated critter inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonshas finally met its match at the hands of one very bitter fan. Despite being a wholesome and cozy decorating and island living game,ACNHhas plenty of frustrating aspects. One of the most maddening tasks is trying to fish up a specific, rare marine creature, only to get hundreds of other, more common species.

And, since the Sea Bass is one of the most common saltwater fish in the title, chances are players will be filling their pockets with the frequently caught fish while looking formore uncommon specimens. Reddit userturtledragon05has come up witha way to get back at the sea bass that’s dastardly and incredibly petty: throwing them into a lake.

Animal Crossing Player Gets Revenge On The Sea Bass

Saltwater Fish Can’t Survive In Fresh Water

The Redditor shares a video of theirAnimal Crossingcharacter catching a Sea Bass, then walking over to a nearby lake to release it. They write that they do it because they “hate them so much and it’s the closest I can get to killing them.“Their actions are purely psychological, as they have no actual effect on the game.

In the real world, though, placing a saltwater fish into fresh water and vice versa does, indeed, spell doom for the unfortunate fish:Saltwater fish can’t survive in freshwater bodies of waterthanks to special adaptations. In the game, though, the fish swims away, presumably unharmed.

The Sea Bass Is A Maddeningly Common Fish In ACNH

It Definitely Doesn’t Earn A C+ From Fans

The Sea Bass is such a hated fish inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsthat it’sspawned many memes about its infuriatingly common natureand its tagline that’s spoken every time it’s fished up: “I caught a sea bass! No, wait- it’s at least a C+!”

The original poster seethes that there’s “nothing better than trying to catch a coelacanth and getting fifty thousand sea bass in the process.” The reason Sea Bass are so commonplace in the waters surrounding theACNHisland is thatthey’re available all day, every day—any time of year, unlike many of the game’s other, seasonal critters.

The Redditor’s actions showthe dichotomy of theAnimal Crossingcommunity. The game and its fanbase are often wholesome and cozy, treating villagers and other characters with love andmaintaining unwritten ruleson their islands like not wearing wetsuits indoors or not re-gifting villager presents.

But when the community decides it doesn’t like something or someone in the game, all bets are off. IrateAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfans have been known to repeatedly hit disliked villagers with their bug-catching nets or trap them between holes to prevent them from wandering around the island. The Sea Bass is just one of the many recipients of the community’s sometimes hilariously petty in-game wrath.
