AlthoughApex Legendsisn’t delivering updates at the same rate asFortnite, the developers at Respawn Entertainment still want to preserve their battle royale experience as much as possible. To that end, theApex Legendsteam recently revealed that it has banned 770,000 players and blocked the creation of over 300,000 accounts.
These bans and new anti-cheat measures have reportedly decreased the number of matches affected by cheats by over half. It’s unclear how many matches that was before it was cut in half, but it suggests thatApex Legendshad a cheating problem and has made strides to address and fix it. Last we had heard,Apex Legendshadbanned about 16,000 cheaters.
No doubtApex Legendstakes cheating seriously, as it is one of the main reasons that games likePUBGandH1Z1struggled to keep their playerbases invested. But the fact that over three-quarters of a million players have been banned is a staggering statistic.
In addition to revealing how many players have been banned, theApex Legendssecurity team also teased some updates and changes that should preemptively prevent cheaters from ruining the battle royale game. Of course, the developers don’t want to give any specifics so as not to tip off cheat makers, but it sounds as though part of Respawn Entertainment’s recent beefing up of its development team was focused on security. Ideally, this should help theApex Legendsdeveloper respond to new cheats and exploits quicker.
Ultimately,Apex Legendswill need to continue to combat cheaters if it wants to preserve its battle royale experience. While players have waned on the game over the last few months due to alack of new content and a disappointing battle pass, Respawn Entertainment just recently vowed to put more development efforts towards the game while not overworking its team.
Unfortunately, that means putting anyfutureTitanfallrelated projects on the back burnerin an effort to makeApex Legendsa more rewarding experience for regular players. We will see whether that changes anything in the next few months.
Apex Legendsis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
