As it turns out, there will be more games coming to the Nintendo Switch on July 28, 2025 thanMonster Hunter Rise, because it was announced during today’s Nintendo Direct Mini that Square Enix’s whimsical 3D platformerBalan Wonderworldwill also be available for the console on that day.

Coming fromSonic the Hedgehogco-creators Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima, as well as a collective of developers and designers known as Balan Company,Balan Wonderworldlooks like it will capture a similar vibe to Sonic Team’s more obscure titles, likeBilly HatcherandNiGHTS Into Dreams. In addition to the Switch, the game is also planned to launch for PlayStation and Xbox systems, as well as PC, but it’s not yet clear whether those versions will launch on the same day as the Switch version.

While fairly brief, the new footage shown during the Direct Mini expands onBalan Wonderworld’s original announcementwith a deeper look at its gameplay. It explains that the game will come with 12 different stages full of collectibles to gather to unlock new stages. Players will be able to navigate these with the help of 80 different costumes with unique abilities, and better yet, they’ll be able to do so with a friend in two-player co-op.

While it’s not all that rare for games likeBalan WonderworldandMonster Hunter Rise, two different games from two different publishers, to launch at the same time, there is something particularly interesting in this case, given that anew Nintendo Switch model is reportedly coming in 2021. That’s not to say that these games could be launching alongside the new Switch, and that the console is launching in March, but until more substantial information emerges, it’s technically possible.

Balan Wonderworldwill launch on June 24, 2025 for Switch, and possibly PC, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X as well.
