Players will encounter dozens of different blockades inBaldur’s Gate 3. The most typical is the door but there are also boards, crates, mirrors, and monsters that bar the way. For the most part, a creative and determined gamer can figure out how to get through each after a minute or two of thoughtful consideration.

But then something like the cracked wall comes up and players shoot it, cast spells on it, and search for ways around with no success.Baldur’s Gate 3dies have a way to get through this barrier but it takes knowing about some of the classicDungeons and Dragonsrules to understand why the solution works.

Before the cracked door, most objects that can be damaged don’t really care about the type of damage. But this particular wall is resistant to all damage sources except for bludgeoning damage.Switch party membersand equip some kind of high-damage mace, likely a two-hander.

The other issue going on is that this cracked wall has a required damage threshold. If players attack it, even with a blunt object, the cracked wall still won’t take damage unless the result is higher than a certain number. This is one reason why anideal party compositionwill have at least one very strong party member.

For players that can’t make this happen, the cracked wall does appear to take damage from non-bludgeoning sources but it has to be a very high amount. Also, there areother ways to get into the Underdarkif this proves too difficult. The game is good about giving gamers different ways to achieve the same goals; bowling through the wall isn’t the only answer.

Baldur’s Gate 3is available now for PC. The PlayStation 5 version will be available on September 6th, 2023. A version for Xbox Series X/S is still in development.
