The first season ofBeastarslaunched Netflix in Japan October 8th of last year. Based on the award-winning manga by Paru Itagaki, the show was quickly given an English duband an American release in March of 2020. Since then it has been confirmed that the series was indeed getting a second season, and just recently, some interesting new artwork was revealed in anticipation of its January release.

It’s an intense piece of key art, featuring a lot of returning characters, as well as new faces for the cast. The poster uses one of those classic ‘shattering glass with pictures inside’ styles, and features Legoshi and Louis glaring hard at something or someone. It also shows off season 2 newcomers Free, Pina, and Ibuki. As of now, the plan is for Season 2 ofBeastarsto air on Fuji TV’s +Ultra blockalongside a weekly release on Netflix Japan.

Season 2 Beastars

The basic concept ofBeastarsis pretty simple: In a world where anthropomorphic animals are separated into predators and prey, young adults struggle to balance their personal relationships in a society where so much distrust is baked into their very existence. The show takes place in a high school where a fragile peace is maintained between students, and everyone is waiting to see who will become a Beastar: an academic and social role model destined to become a leader in a society fraught with natural tension. If that sounds familiar, it’s probably because it’s surprisingly close to Disney’sZootopia, though it’s a lot darker, and the similarities are likely just a coincidence.

For those intrigued by the premise, the anime is currently availableon Netflix in both its original Japanese and English voice dub. There is also, of course, the Manga, which is taking pre-orders for the 9th volume right now, with English translations slowly coming out in the meantime. Until then, the next season of the show is expected to arrive in January of 2021, though it is currently unknown how much of a delay, if any, there will be between the Japanese and English releases.
