Bethesda’sE3 2017 showcasestarted off with some unique takes on familiar titles, with both theFalloutandElder Scrollsseries at the helm of the show’s opening. Bethesda had previously made history bybringing downloadable fan-made modificationsto both Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and before that had even run afailed experimentwith paid downloadable content through the Steam Workshop. It seems like the company is ready to try to meet both ideas halfway, as Bethesda has officially announced an e-shop called the Creation Club for bothFallout 4andSkyrim Special Edition.
The Creation Club is an in-game store system where content is produced by Bethesda itself, approved third party game developers, and an exclusive list of some of the community’s top content creators. Unlike the pre-existing list of downloadable modifications for either title, however, gamers will have to purchase credits in order to access the Creation Club’s contents. Since the creators of these items and gameplay enhancements work hand-in-hand with Bethesda to build these items, Bethesda promises compatibility and achievement support across all save games for every download.
The Creation Club is due to come out this summer, although an exact release date has yet to be announced. Bethesda also hasn’t mentioned how much credits for the club will cost, so it’ll be up to gamers to judge if the offered content is worth splashing any cash. The items shown in the above trailer look highly polished, though offering these items alongside a bevy of free fan-made content may be a hard sell for the Maryland-based studio.
This isn’t the only change en route for either series, withFallout VRhaving been announced at the show’s opening. The Elder Scrolls Legendswill will also be getting an expansion calledHeroes of Skyrim, and a very belated confirmation thatSkyrimwill come to the Nintendo Switchwas also given at the conference.
What do you think about the Creation Club, Ranters? What kind of content do you hope to see offered by the service?
