Kazue Katō’sBlue Exorcistmanga is set to returnfrom its hiatus this May, the March issue of Shueisha’s Jump SQ. magazine revealed on Friday. The long-running supernatural series has been on hiatus since July 2021.
The series was originally slated to return in the May 2022 issue, which would ship in early April but will be included in the June issue instead.

Katō’sBlue Exorcistmanga began serialization in Shueisha’s Jump SQ. in 2009. 27 compiled tankōbon volumeshave been released so far, and the success of the manga inspired a spin-off series. TheSalaryman Exorcist: The Sorrows of Yukio Okumuraspin-off manga is written by Katō and illustrated by Minoru Sasaki (Chuusotsu Worker kara Hajimeru Koukou Seikatsu) and was initially serialized in Jump SQ.19 before moving to Jump SQ. in 2015.
A 25-episode anime adaptationby Studio A-1 aired during the Spring and Fall 2011 seasons. The series was directed by Tensai Okamura (The Seven Deadly Sins,Kuromukuro) with Ryōta Yamaguchi (Cutie Honey Flash,Kanon) handling the series composition. Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan,Promare) composed the music. The series stars Nobuhiko Okamoto (My Hero Academia’sBakugo,Assassination Classroom’sKarma Akabane) and Jun Fukuyama (Code Geass’Lelouch,Persona 5’sRen Amamiya) as twin brothers Rin and Yukio Okumura.
A-1 releasedBlue Exorcist: The Moviein 2012, with Atsushi Takahashi (Godzilla Singular Point) directing and Reiko Yoshida (A Silent Voice) handling the screenplay. A second anime series,Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga, ran for 12 episodesduring the Winter 2017 season. Koichi Hatsumi (Tokyo Revengers,Deadman Wonderland) directed the series, while Toshiya Ōno (86,The Promised Neverland) handled the script. Hiroyuki Sawano and Kohta Yamamoto composed the music for the series.
VIZ Media publishes the manga series in English, though theSorrows of Yukio Okumuraspin-off has yet to receive an official translation. Aniplex of America licenses the anime outside of Japan, with the original series having aired on Adult Swim’s Toonami block.
