Borderlands 3is a game stuffed full of pop culture references and easter eggs, making nods to everything fromRick and MortytoSuper Mario. Fans continue to find easter eggs and fun references in the game, including a shield that references the sci-fi comedy cartoonFuturama.

TheBorderlands 3Futuramaeaster egg comes in the form of the Mr. Caffeine Shield. This shield isn’t anything all that special, but its flavor text is a clear reference to theFuturamaepisode where Fry gets addicted to coffee. There is a point in the episode when Fry says, “I don’t want my coffee shaking!” which is the same flavor text that can be found on theBorderlands 3Mr. Caffeine shield.

Besides being aFuturamareference, it’s quite possible that the Mr. Caffeine shield doubles as a reference to Ubisoft’s E3 2011 press conference. It was then when the world was subjected to the obnoxious host, one “Mr. Caffeine,” who made dated references toWayne’s Worldand wound up on all kinds of cringe compilations. We even named it one of themost embarrassing E3 momentsin the history of the show.

As previously mentioned,Borderlands 3is full of references, and so it’s quite possible that there are moreFuturamaeaster eggs yet to be found. After all, bothBorderlands 3andFuturamaare sci-fi games, and both focus on a crew that traverses the galaxy in a spaceship. Considering this, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to learn that fans have come across moreFuturamaeaster eggs in the game.

In the meantime, there are plenty of otherBorderlands 3easter eggs and references to fans to seek out. And like theFuturamaeaster egg, these typically come in the form of items and weapons that players can find around the game world. There’s theRick and Mortyshotgun as previously mentioned, plus a bonafideDoomshotgun, an Elon Musk flamethrower, and much more. We compiled a list of the10 bestBorderlands 3easter egg weaponsfor those who want to hunt them all down.

Borderlands 3is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
