The next iteration ofCall of Dutyhas finally been announced, and it turns out thatModern Warfarehas indeed made a comeback.A newModern Warfarehas been rumored for quite some time, so the announcement shouldn’t be much of a surprise for fans of the series. However, it has been quite some time since the last modern entry, so it should be somewhat refreshing for shooter fans.
Activision posted a brief trailer to the officialCall of DutyYouTube channel that offers a quick look at in-game footage, though many of the shots are heavily scripted events. There’s also a few shots of Capitan Price, though hisinclusion in the game was leaked some time ago.The trailer also confirms the game’s release date as October 25th, 2019, so fans just have a few short months until they can get their hands on the game itself.
The game will be a reimagining of theModern Warfaresub-franchise, according to Infinity War Co-Studio Head David Stohl, who said the game will be an “emotionally charged experience that’s inspired by the headlines in the world today”. This should come as no surprise, as it’s been previously confirmed thatModern Warfarewill take inspiration from the infamous “No Russian” level ofModern Warfare 2.It’s a bold move on Infinity Ward’s part, especially given the increased attention towards video games circulating at the moment.
Modern Warfarewill also be dropping the traditional season pass business model, with Infinity Ward instead opting to release post-launch events and maps for free. That should come as great news, as it will keep the player base from becoming divided, which can become a real issue in games with paid post-release content.
All in all, the trailer looks incredibly detailed. Many fans have been anxiously awaiting another modern entry into the franchise, and this trailer certainly looks like a worthy successor to the other entries. Activision has confirmed theCall of Duty: Modern Warfarewill be at E3, where we’ll hopefully also get a glance at the game’s multiplayer. Until then, fans will just have to make do with the trailer.
