After watching one confusingSquid Gameseason 2 scene, it is hard not to see how one dark theory about Jun-hee’s fate in season 3 makes a lot of sense. Introduced as Player 222, Jun-hee became one of themain players inSquid Gameseason 2. Her appearance at the games shocked everyone because she was pregnant, which raised many questions and concerns about her well-being in the games' future. While she has been able to survive in the games so far, many viewers have speculated whether she will be able to make it out alive in theNetflix Korean show’s last installment.

Jun-hee’s demise inSquid Gameseason 3would make the series a little too grim. However, given how the show has never shied away from dabbling with dark themes and story beats, it would not be surprising if a bleak fate awaits the character. Some viewers have also come up with an intriguing theory about Jun-hee’s final arc based on a subtle detail in aSquid Gameposter. Interestingly, the theory also seems to be in tandem with a confusing but seemingly important story development from season 2.

Jo Yu-ri as Kim Jun-hui in Squid Game season 3’s trailer

Jun-hee’s Squid Game Season 3 Poster Might Have Foreshadowed Her Death

Her Poster Seemingly Has An Octopus In The Background

After seeing the newSquid Gameseason 3 character posters, viewers (viaReddit) could not help but notice an octopus in the background of the poster that features Jo Yu-ri’s Kim Jun-hee. Sinceoctopuses are known to die soon after giving birth to their offspring, viewers theorized that the sea creature’s presence in the season 3 poster could be foreshadowing Jun-hee’s fate.Squid Gameseason 2 emphasized Jun-hee’s pregnancy story, establishing that it would eventually tie into the show’s overarching story.

Owing to this, it is hard not to see how the theory holds some credibility. Since Jun-hee cannot escape the games unless she eventually manages to be the sole winner, she might have to give birth to her child while the games are still on. With no medical facilities, she might die during childbirth, which would mirror the octopus symbolism. However, since character fates have always been unpredictable inSquid Game, one cannot truly foresee whether the octopus means something or has been featured in the poster for no apparent reason.

Player 044 the Shaman in Squid Game season 2

One Detail From Squid Game Season 3’s Trailer Makes This Theory Even More Likely

Towards the end of theSquid Gameseason 3 teaser, one can also hear the sound of a baby crying. This again hints that Jun-hee might eventually give birth during the games, which may not end too well for her. Even if she does not die during childbirth, it is hard not to wonder if the game’s authorities will show some empathy towards her and let her leave after she gives birth. There is also the question ofwhat would happen to the baby if Jun-hee died while playing one of the rounds of the games.

Some viewers have speculated that after losing her son, Geum-ja will take the child’s responsibility. Or, Gi-hun might eventually save the day by somehow finding a way to safely get the child out of the games' venue before it is too late. It may be hard to predict how Jun-hee’s pregnancy story will unfold inSquid Gameseason 3, but one scene from season 2 might have also hinted at how it will tie into Gi-hun’s narrative.

Jun-hee’s Connection With Gi-hun Was Prophesied In A Squid Game Season 2 Scene

The Shaman Predicted That Gi-hun’s Purpose Was Linked With Jun-hee

During one of the initial rounds of theMingle game inSquid Gameseason 2, Gi-hun and his team end up taking the shaman lady, Seon-nyeo, on their team. As soon as they enter a room, the shaman takes one look at Gi-hun before staring at Jun-hee. She then concludes thatGi-hun has only survived so long because he has a purpose to fulfill, seemingly establishing that Gi-hun might eventually save Jun-hee and her child.

The shaman is perhaps one of the most unreliable characters in the series, and it is hard to believe anything that comes out of her mouth.

However, considering how random and confusing the Mingle game scene seems in season 2, it has to mean something in Gi-hun’s story. Hopefully,Squid Game’s final arc will avoid glossing over these underlying story threads and give them a solid, satisfying resolution.
