This week has been an interesting one forDestiny 2developer Bungie, to say the least. After initially launching a community-widepuzzle with the Niobe Labs mission, the hope was that players around the globe would work together to unlock the fourth forge in the Black Armory DLC. However, after over a day of trying, Bungie decided to unlock the forge and leave the puzzle to the most hardcore puzzle-solvers.
Now, it turns out, even those players were unlikely to solve the Niobe Labs puzzle, as Bungie has confirmed that an element of the level 7 puzzle was “improperly removed.” But instead of putting the clue back, theDestiny 2developer has provided a new clue that should help players complete level 7. It reads:
With weapons imbued
Through sights unseen
Craft truth from the Hand
Return the dials to the crest
Stay true to the map
To prove thy knowledge of the family three
As of this writing, players are trying to decode the message, but with this new information it shouldn’t be long before some fireteam figures it out. Presumably, this also means that level 7 is the final part of the Niobe Labs mission, and completing it willunlock a ghost and an emblemfor all who attempt it.
What exactly “improperly removed” means is unclear, but it may not be as simple as a clue was missing. Still, one has to wonder how long it was before Bungie realized that the additional information was missing. Watching players beat their head against a puzzle in the hopes of guessing the right solution was very deflating.
If nothing else, the failure of Niobe Labs is sure to change how Bungie approaches complex puzzles inDestiny 2moving forward. The upcomingPenumbra DLCis said to feature a lot of puzzles, but now hopefully Bungie will give them a once-over to make sure the solutions are clear enough.
