For those unfamiliar, the concept of aBungie Bountyis something that was present in the originalDestiny. The much-loved event saw Bungie team members get together in the Crucible to challenge Guardians, with special prizes being rewarded to those lucky enough to beatDestiny’s creators at their own game.
Now, Bungie Bounties will be returning inDestiny 2, and the first of them will be going live tonight, September 27, from 8:00pm to 10:00pm Pacific time. Community manager Cozmo made the announcement late last night on the official Bungie website, summing up the appeal of theDestiny 2event in one succinct sentence:
“It’s now time to bring back the old ritual of placing a bounty on someone’s head and watching the community hunt them down to claim sweet rewards.”
The bounty for tonight will be placed on a player named Gigz, but Cozmo stated the format would be changing up a bit and that Gigz would be protected by a fireteam of Bungie staff: imtylerdurden, a senior designer named Josh Hamrick; Tocom, a senior designer named Kevin Yanes; and Cozmo_BNG himself, theDestiny 2community manager and on-site guide to all of the most exciting events and announcements that take place in the game.
Interestingly, Bungie has chosen to begin the Bungie Bounty events inDestiny 2on the PS4, as the team will be matching up with other PS4 players on the competitive Crucible playlist for two hours. Events like this are an argument for morecross-platform support from Sony, but Cozmo stated that future events would take place on the Xbox One, so players on the Microsoft console won’t be excluded for too long.
Those who are lucky enough to match up with the Bungie team and win will be granted a cool cosmetic reward in the form of the Sign of Mutual combat emblem, seen above. WhileDestiny 2could get betterin terms of the way it approaches its cosmetic system, events like this are absolutely the kind of community-driven instances that madeDestinyso long-lasting, and it’s encouraging to see Bungie head right back to its roots so soon after the game’s launch.
Destiny 2is out now for PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version releases on October 24th.
