This week, the Solstice of Heroes event will go live inDestiny 2, bringing with it a newEuropean Aerial Zone activityand daily elemental buffs that can have a fairly dramatic impact on the game. But that has led to a concern from players that those buffs will negatively impact some of the more competitive PvP modes in the game. But according to developer Bungie, those buffs specific to the Solstice of Heroes event will not impact the Competitive playlist in the Crucible or Gambit Prime.
In Solstice of Heroes, there will be a rotating daily elemental buff cycling between solar, void, and arc elements. Similar to last year’s event, using subclasses and weapons that align with the daily element will generate elemental orbs of that type. But for this year’s version of theDestiny 2event, when players pick them up they will become empowered with a special ability:

It’s not hard to see how these kinds of buffs could negatively impact more competitive game modes, as they give players much more power than normal. A similar situation occurredduring The Revelry event when the Tonic buffmade an impact on competitive modes, which left many players upset about how it threw PvP out of balance.
But, this time around, Bungie is making sure that the most competitive modes will not be affected. However, that does mean that all other modes besides Competitive and Gambit Prime will have the buff effective as well as all the PvE activities in the game. If history is a predictor, get ready for players finding interesting ways to take advantage of the Solstice of Heroes buffs in some of the game’s activities such as the raids.
