WhileDestiny 2has a major piece of DLC coming in its first expansion, Curse of Osiris, which will almost surely add more to the game’s PvP experience, Season 2 will also add one map into the mix for free.
The news came from Bungie during a panel at TwitchCon discussing how the developer is splitting the first year ofDestiny 2into seasons, with Season 2 beginning sometime in December. There weren’t any hints as to what the map could be, but the developers on the panel described how the map will be added to the game similar to how Season 1 added the maps Eternity, Emperor’s Respite, and Distant Shores.

Each of those maps revolved around the launch of one ofDestiny 2’s events. Eternity launched as the first map for Trials of the Nine, themed around the mode and its Spire social space. Similarly,Emperor’s Respite was addedthe moment the first team cleared the Leviathan raid, their efforts unlocking the Crucible map for all players. Lastly, Iron Banner earlier this month added Distant Shores, which is a remake of fan-favoriteDestiny 1map Shores of Time.
Considering thatThe Dawninglive event will launch shortly after Season 2 begins, the free map could very well be connected to that. The other likelihood is a connection to the Curse of Osiris expansion, which is set to release in December as well. While Curse of Osiris will almost certainly add a handful of Crucible maps of its own as part of the DLC, there’s the possibility that the free map could be connected to a game mode or event that players don’t even know about yet.
There should be more information to theorize about very soon, withBungie planning three streams in Novemberto talk about what’s next. It’s expected that Curse of Osiris and Season 2 will be the main topics of those streams.
Destiny 2is available now for PS4 and Xbox One, and releases on July 23, 2025 for PC.
