The first official trailer forDexter: Resurrectionshows promising signs that the upcomingDextersequel series will avoid repeating one of the worst parts ofDexter: New Blood’sfinale. Paramount+ with Showtime unveiledthe official trailer forDexter: Resurrectionat CCXP 2025, which featured a fully recovered Dexter Morgan (following his nearly fatalgunshot wound at the end ofNew Blood), at large in New York City. In the trailer, Dexter meets Uma Thurman’s mysterious character Charley, who introduces Dexter to Peter Dinklage’s Leon Prater, a wealthy man with a particular interest in serial killers.

One notable scene at the beginning of theDexter: Resurrectiontrailer involvesoriginalDextercharacter Angel Batista (played by David Zayas) visiting Dexter in the hospital. This scene presumably happens not long after Dexter is shot by his son, Harrison Morgan, in theNew Bloodfinale. While Angel did appear in some episodes ofDexter: New Blood, his character was very much a supporting, nearly background character who had no real effect on the series. His early inclusion in theDexter: Resurrectiontrailer, however, suggests that he will play more of an integral role in the second Dexter sequel series.

Dexter & Angel Officially Reunite In Dexter: Resurrection After New Blood’s Missed Opportunity

Angel Returned Briefly In New Blood But Never Shared A Scene With Dexter

Many fans of the originalDexterseries found it frustrating that Angel came back inDexter: New Bloodbut didn’t actually have any scenes with Dexter in the first sequel show. This frustration was exacerbated by the fact that Angel had heard and began to suspect that, after all those years,Dexter was the true Bay Harbor Butcher, not Sgt. Doakes fromDexterseasons 1 and 2, and there was no confrontation on the matter inNew Blood. Frustrations mounted even further when Dexter was thought to have been killed off after just one season ofNew Bloodbefore returning inResurrection.

Now, with the newDexter: Resurrectiontrailer confirming that Angel and Dexter will reunite in the hospital, all signs point to that long-awaited confrontation actually happening. In the trailer, Angel embraces Dexter in the hospital, saying, “It’s like seeing a ghost,” before revealing thatChief Angela Bishop, Dexter’s girlfriend inNew Blood, told Batista that Dexter is the true Bay Harbor Butcher. Dexter is then shown escaping from the hospital through a bathroom window before hopping into an SUV and fleeing to New York City. His Dark Passenger says to the audience sardonically, “So much for a happy reunion.”

Angel Appears To Let Dexter Get Away At The Start Of Dexter: Resurrection

Dexter: Resurrectionwill have to immediately answer a few cliffhanger questions that have leftNew Bloodaudiences hanging for several years. Most importantly,Resurrectionshould clear up why Angel gives Dexter the benefit of the doubt and hugs him even after Chief Bishop tipped him off about Dexter’s true identity. Obviously, Angel should have arrested Dexter the second he laid eyes on him. Additionally, the first scene ofDexter: Original Sinfeatured Dexter bleeding in the back of a speeding police vehicle.Resurrectionshould answer whether Angela drove him to the hospital and, if so, why she’s not there when Angel arrives.

Angel warns Harrison that he is going down a dark path, suggesting that he may actually know all about Dexter’s Dark Passenger and may be a guide to Harrison throughoutDexter: Resurrection.

Angel’s involvement doesn’t appear to stop at the initial hospital scene, as he is shown having a meaningful conversation with Harrison later on, who appears to be working as a bellhop at a luxurious hotel. Harrison is also shown dragging a dead body, suggesting that he will struggle to contain and master his Dark Passenger like his father has.

The details of Harrison and Dexter’s relationship are sure to be fleshed out inResurrection, since Dexter encouraged his son to shoot and kill him. However, Angel warns Harrison that he is going down a dark path, suggesting that he may actually know all about Dexter’s Dark Passenger and may be a guide to Harrison throughoutDexter: Resurrection.
