Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Resurrection season 1, episode 6.Dexter: Resurrectionhas seemingly found a replacement for Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter), and episode 6 confirmed who it is. While there are manyoriginalDextercharacters returning inDexter: Resurrection, there are a few who couldn’t make it back on the show. Deb is arguably the biggest missing character, butResurrectionhas already found someone else to fill her role.
In the originalDexter, Deb did a lot for Dexter. She was his best friend, his confidant, and often his guiding light. A huge part ofNew Bloodinvestigated how Dexter unraveled without a good influence like Deb, and it’s pretty clear that Dexter needs someone like her in his life. Luckily,Resurrectionhas found the perfect replacement, and it’s another part ofDexter’s family tree.

Harrison Is Becoming Dexter’s New Version Of Debra Morgan
InDexter: Resurrectionepisode 6, Harrison reaches out to Dexter to talk about an urge he had to kill Elsa’s landlord. During their conversation, Dexter pointed out that Harrison was a lot like Deb. He has a strong sense of right and wrong, a hot temper, and a burning desire to make the world a better place. Dexter hit the nail on the head:Harrison isResurrection’s replacement for Deb.
Even after just two episodes of being reconnected with Dexter, it already looks clear that Harrison is going to fill the same role Deb did. Harrison will be Dexter’s reason for doing the right thing, his voice of reason, and his “anchor” to humanity, just like Deb was inDexter. He’s already inspired Dexter to be a better, more understanding father, which Deb did multiple times in the original show.

Harrison is also Dexter’s only surviving blood relative. Family has always had a huge role in theDexterfranchise; it’s what keeps Dexter from being like his brother, Brian Moser, and what helps him become more human. Debra isn’t around to give Dexter a strong familial bond anymore, but Harrison fills that role perfectly inResurrection.
Harrison & Deb’s Most Tragic Kills Both Haunted Them In Ways That Dexter Never Experienced
Harrison and Deb also share another big similarity: their consciences. Both Harrison and Deb have killed people for good reasons only to deeply regret it after the fact. Deb killed Maria LaGuerta inDexterseason 7 to protect Dexter, while Harrison killed Ryan to protect Shauna. Ryan was much more guilty than Maria, but the fact remains that Harrison and Deb’s sense of morality is almost the same.
Deb and Harrison also responded to their guilty consciences in similar ways. InDexterseason 8, Deb tried to turn herself in to the police, only for Dexter to stop her. InResurrectionepisode 4, Harrison also tried to turn himself in to the police, only for Dexter to stop him. Harrison and Deb both react to murder in a much more normal way than Dexter does, which provides a great contrast to Dexter.

The only way Harrison and Deb’s stories will (hopefully) differ is in their ending. Deb convinced Dexter to turn Oliver Saxon in to the police instead of killing him, which indirectly led to her death. Harrison may try to get Dexter to turnResurrection’s serial killers over to law enforcement, butDexter: Resurrectionprobably won’t let that end with Harrison’s death.
