Despite the fact that id Software’s originalDoomreleased way back in 1993, the title is still being enjoyed by myriad fans today, and there are also plenty of folks out there hard at work making their own mods for the game. As a matter of fact, one fan recently decided to create a mod for what many consider to be “the granddaddy of first-person shooters” by adding weapons from Blizzard Entertainment’s team-based shooter,Overwatch, into the classic title.
As seen below in the video from the YouTuber known as “DrUberWaffles,” originalDoomfans can get a gander at theOverDOOMmod from creator “MyNameIs,” which incorporates D.Va’s mech suit, Widowmaker’s sniper rifle, Lucio’s sound gun, and more into the classic id Software title. It doesn’t appear as if all ofOverwatch’s firearms have made the transition intoDoomthrough the mod, though, but it’s safe to say that many will want to give it a go, especially with Hanzo’s bow being among some of the weapons available.
TheDoommod from MyNameIs is definitely a delight, and it joins the ranks of a plethora of other crossover mods that have been created for the classic first-person shooter, with another fan-favorite in particular being theGoldenEye 007modthat adds the original N64 game’s popular Dam level. Considering the high level of quality MyNameIs applied to theOverDOOMmod, it wouldn’t be surprising to see first-person shooter fans clamor forOverwatch’s weapons to get added intoDOOM’s 2016 release next.
All things considered, it’s great to see the originalDoom’s fan base still creating fun and interesting mods for the title so long after its launch, which certainly speaks to the popularity of the first-person shooter and its permanent foothold in gaming history. Without a doubt, there will surely be even moreDoommods to come as time marches on.
id Software’s originalDoomcan be played across a multitude of platforms, but theOverDOOMmod is only available for its PC version.
