The last entry in theDragon Agefranchise,Dragon Age: Inqusition, released in 2014 to numerous Game of the Year awards, soDragon Age 4shouldn’t come across as a surprise. In fact, ideas have been in the work for some time, but an earlier report confirmed that development onDragon Age 4was restarted when Casey Hudson returned toBioWareas GM in order to divert more resources toAnthem. As such, no one has truly been expecting this sequel to release any time soon, and new Fiscal Year reports indicate that it is still far off.

EA recently revealed its Fiscal Year 2021 goals, which included anext-genBattlefieldgameand release window for it. Word also reached Game Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad thatDragon Age 4wouldn’t drop until Fiscal Year 2022, which would fall some time after April that year. Ahmad did mention this info was received in an offhand manner, so it may not be incredibly specific. Still, it falls in line with everything else, making an approximate 2022 release, perhaps even Fall 2022, seem likely.

Alongside this reveal aboutDragon Age 4, Ahmad also stated there was a newStar Warstitle in development to be released some time near the end of Fiscal Year 2022. Chances are, this isBattlefront 3, but a completely newStar Warsgame or even a sequel toJedi: Fallen Orderisn’t exactly out of the question, especially given how much stock EA has put into the franchise.

Information aboutDragon Age 4prior to the restart has circulated for some time, as the current project is known as “Morrison” and the original project was known as “Joplin.” Many of those who worked on theDragon Age 4Joplin Projectsang its praises, as players would take on the roles of spies in the Tevinter Imperium, would have in-game areas change over time based on branching decisions, a mechanic that allowed spies to persuade, exhort, or abuse gaurds, all while of course circumventing the plans of Solas.

It remains to be seen if any of Joplin finds itself reborn in Morrison, but fans of the franchise clearly have some time to wait. Hopefully,Dragon Age 4doesn’t meet the same fate asMass Effect: Andromeda, but there’s a lot riding on BioWare to correct the mistakes of its past releases.
