The date is set for the next round of major content forFinal Fantasy 14. During this weekend’s Letter from the Producer Live event, director and producer Naoki Yoshida announced that Patch 5.4,Futures Rewritten, is coming out on December 8.

Yoshida has previously teased that Patch 5.4will be the largest patch for theShadowbringersexpansion to date, and the official breakdown that Square Enix released following the release date announcement backs that up. Set to start wrapping theShadowbringerscampaign’s story with a new line of main scenario quests, the patch will also introduce the next chapter of the 8-part Eden raid series, Eden’s Promise, as well as the opportunity to take on aFF 14reimagining ofFinal Fantasy 7’s Emerald Weapon boss.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, asFutures Rewrittenwill introduce a wide variety of content, including a new dungeon and trials, a new Explorer Mode, and other gameplay additions. These will then be joined by subsequent updates forFinal Fantasy 14that will provide blue mages with new content and introduce the next stages of several ongoing questlines, including the final chapter of the Save the Queen relic quest. As hefty as all that content sounds, it seems that it’s just the start of what Square Enix has in store for the coming year. Yoshida announced during this weekend’s event that amajorFF 14announcement will take place in February, which might very well be a first look at the game’s next expansion. Until then, new players can start catching up through an expanded free trial that now includes all of the content fromA Realm Rebornand theHeavenswardexpansion.
