The 14th installment of the popular RPG series,Final Fantasy XIVOnlineis only the second MMORPG in the line up. TheStarter Editiontypically costs $20 to purchase, and the online version requires a paid monthly subscription in order to play. Even though the“Free Play” Campaignended on May 17, Square Enix is allowing gamers another chance to start their ownFinal Fantasy XIVadventures.

Final Fantasy XIV Online Starter Editioncomes with an online 30 day free trial, so players initially don’t have to pay to play the game with friends. This package includesFinal Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, which is the base game that many players can enjoy without a subscription to PlayStationPlus. According toSquare Enix, theStarter Editionis a great way for new players to try the game and get a taste of adventure in Eorzea. Currently, there have been no announcements to expand this offer to the PC version of the game, but at least for now, it only applies to the PS4.

This offer is a great way to get into the popularFinal Fantasygame while the coronavirus has driven many to stay inside. While this is a wonderful chance to play the game, theFinal Fantasy XIV: A Realm Rebornversion that comes with theStarter Editionlacks the expansionsStormblood,Heavensward, andShadowbringerswhich fans claim immensely improves the player experience of the game. TheStarter Editionalso only allows for players to get to level 50 and does not let the player’s in-game level surpass that point.

While some may say that the content that’s being left out makes this opportunity not worth the download, this is still an event worth taking advantage of if you have been thinking about getting intoFinal Fantasy XIV.
