Final Fantasy 15will be the latest crossover to join the world of MMOFinal Fantasy 14, according to an announcement made during today’sFinal Fantasy 14FanFest Live Letter in Paris. A trailer featuring none other thanFinal Fantasy 15’sprotagonist Noctiswas shared during the event, confirming a forthcoming special event. Noctis’s flying car, the Regalia, as also shown in the trailer, will also be introduced to the game, but in a more permanent fashion asFinal Fantasy 14’s first four-character mount.
The matter of Noctis’s crossover event is unclear for the time being. The trailer only served as an announcement for the event and no further details were provided, beyond a targeted release window of mid-April. The trailer shows Noctis fighting alongside the player character through several quests, including a stop by a camping site in a cute throwback toFinal Fantasy 15. His event appears to culminate in a fight against Garuda, but who knows just how complex Noctis’s overall event truly is.
As for theRegalia, there’s not much more to be said. It’s Noctis’s car (technically King Regis’s car) fromFinal Fantasy 15, no Cindy required.Final Fantasy 15’s director described the car as symbolizing the “open world,” so now that spirit of freedom and exploration can be brought toFinal Fantasy 14. Odds are this mount is going to be pricey, so expect it to hit the Mog Station at it’s highest mount cost - between $25-30.
Final Fantasy 15’s crossover event is the second such announcement of the weekend. Yesterday, during theFinal Fantasy 14FanFest Opening Ceremony, it was announced that Yoko Taro, the creator ofNier: Automata, would be working with Square Enix to create a special “Alliance Raid” based off of his game. A similar project was done with the creator ofFinal Fantasy Tacticsand was extremely well-received. If Taro is involved, it’s all but guaranteed to be interesting. TheYoRHa: Dark ApocalypseAlliance Raid will be delivered afterShadowbringersis launched.
Final Fantasy 14is available now on PC and PS4. The game’s third expansion,Shadowbringers, launches July 2.
