Gil Kenan, director of Monster House

TheFive Nights at Freddy’sfilm adaption just got a director in Gil Kenan. Kenan directed the Oscar-nominated filmMonster House, kid-friendly action-adventure flickCity of Ember, and the recent remake of the horror classicPoltergeist, which received74%,53%, and33%respectively onRotten Tomatoes, anaggregator of movie and TV reviews.

Perhaps this is a chance for Kenan to shine in the spotlight again after his last two films failed to get much traction. TheFive Nights at Freddy’sseries has some pretty deep lore that is far darker than what you’d expect for a series that started with a security guard in a knockoff Chuck E. Cheese’s, so I’d imagine a film adaption would be rather difficult to get right.

Also, I’ve seen people say that Gil Kenan is an Oscar-nominated director, but that is false;Monster Housewas nominated for best animated feature, but Kenan was never nominated for best director.
