Developer 343 Industries confirms that the nextHalogame,Halo: Infinitewill see the return of four-player splitscreen after the feature was omitted inHalo 5. During a recent livestream from 343 Industries, the developer dropped a few tidbits aboutHalo: Infinite, including this one. The developer said that it has been successfully testing four-player co-op on the new engine built forHalo Infinite.

While 343 Industries studio head Bonnie Ross announced back in 2017 that the nextHalowould havesplitscreen co-op, these recent comments are a confirmation that the developer is staying true to that promise.Halo 5: Guardiansdrew the ire of fans when it did not feature local splitscreen co-op, which had been a series staple feature up until then.

The developer saidit couldn’t keep splitscreen inHalo 5because of technical limitations. This was specifically due to the fact that 343 Industries could not retain a solid 60 frames per second and achieve the scale of AI behavior and environments while also running the game in splitscreen.

From the reveal trailer and the way 343 Industries has talked aboutHalo: Infinite, it sounds as though the game will be larger thanHalo 5: Guardians. However, the question remainsif it will be a fully open world game. That said, it sounds as though the developer has solved the problems it faced inHalo 5that kept splitscreen from the final release of the game.

In the same livestream, 343 also said thatHalo: Infinitewould feature player customization inspired byHalo: Reachand thatHalo: Infinite’snew Slipspace enginewas designed with PC in mind. What’s more is that the developer explained it will treat the PC version of the game with the same dedication as the console version.

All of this sounds like good news forHalofans, but there is still no word as to whenHalo Infinitewill be coming out. Nevertheless, some have theorized it could be 2020 before the game releases.
