Kyle Newacheck Wants To Do Another Adam Sandler Legacy Sequel
He Has Already Helmed Happy Gilmore 2
Kyle Newacheck, who directed theupcomingHappy Gilmore 2, has shared another Adam Sandler movie that he would be interested in making. He has stepped in for original director Dennis Duganon the legacy sequel, which follows Happy coming out of retirement so he can pay for his daughter Vienna (Sunny Sandler) to go to ballet school.
The cast ofHappy Gilmore 2also includes Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller, Dennis Dugan, Benny Safdie, Kevin Nealon, Conor Sherry, and Bad Bunny.

ComicBook.comrecently interviewed Kyle Newacheck ahead ofHappy Gilmore2’s debut on Netflix on July 25. When discussing other Sandler movies that deserve follow-ups,he talked about potentially making a sequel to 2000’sLittle Nicky, in which the actor portrayed the Devil’s son, who is sent to earth to maintain the balance between Good and Evil.
The movie, whichonly grossed $58 million in theaters against a reported budget of $85 million, came to mind for Newacheck because Adam Sandler “was always doing the Little Nicky voice on set.” He reflected that the movie could use its fantastical premise to satirize the state of the world and “call attention to some crazy s— going on.”
Read Newacheck’s full quote below:
Here’s one that I think would be interesting now. Because [Sandler] was always doing the Little Nicky voice on set so just hearing it, I was like, I bet that would be excellent now too. I bet we could do something really crazy with Little Nicky. I think there’s something… you know, Happy Gilmore is grounded and he’s able to comment on the world in this movie and kind of send its themes out, but I feel like Little Nicky in the fantastic realm would be really able to call attention to some crazy s— going on in the world right now.
What This Means For Little Nicky 2
Should The Movie Actually Happen?
At first glance,Little Nicky’s failure in theaters would not seem to make it good fodder for a sequel. Additionally,it was nominated for five Razzie awards(it lost all five toBattlefield Earth) and has since earned a dismal Rotten Tomatoes score of 22%.
However, the primary reasonLittle Nickybombed was its budget. The originalHappy Gilmoreonly grossed $41.4 million in theaters, which is roughly $15 million less thanLittle Nicky. However, it became a hit because it only had a budget of $12 million.
Considering the fact that Sandler’s 2000 movie initially drew in a much bigger audience than its predecessor, followingHappy Gilmore 2withLittle Nicky 2might work, as long as the movie’s budget could be kept under control.
