Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Resurrection season 1, episode 7.Harrison Morgan made a big decision inDexter: Resurrection, and it continues one of the Morgan family’s oldest traditions. Harrison has been a big focus ofDextersince theending ofNew Blood. He killed Ryan Foster, narrowly evaded Claudette Wallace and the NYPD, reconnected with Dexter, and is finally getting his life back on track.
In addition to everything else he has going on inResurrection, Harrison is also reviving one ofDexter’s oldest traditions. Harrison made a big decision in this week’s episode, and it actually ended up bringing him closer to both Harry and Debra Morgan.

Harrison Becoming A Cop Honors The Franchise’s Oldest Morgan Family Tradition
InDexter: Resurrectionepisode 7, Harrison decided that he wanted to be a police officer. He even toured a college for criminology, and Dexter also encouraged him to continue pursuing the career.Harrison’s decision makes him the latest Morgan to have a career in law enforcement after Harry, Debra, and Dexter all did the same.
Harry was a detective, Debra briefly served as Miami Metro’s lieutenant, and Dexter was a blood spatter analyst. Dexter even mentioned that a strong moral compass and a desire to make the world a better place “runs” in theMorgan family tree, even though Dexter and Harrison aren’t related to Harry and Deb by blood. Harrison is both metaphorically and literally accepting his Morgan family heritage by becoming a cop.

The idea that the Morgans are all interested in law enforcement has even been a focus of recentDexterstories. Theending ofDexter: Original Sinseason 1, for example, explained that Deb wanted to be a cop because she thought it was more meaningful than playing volleyball. We already knew why Dexter became a blood spatter analyst, butOriginal Sinalso dove deeper into his first days with Miami Metro.
Harrison Is Following In Deb & Harry’s Footsteps More Than Dexter
Harrison’s decision to become a police officer also highlights something interesting about him:though he’s related to Dexter by blood, Harrison takes after Deb and Harry more than he does his father. Harrison is joining the police out of a sense of morality and duty, which is why Deb and Harry joined the police. Dexter, on the other hand, joined to satisfy his dark passenger.
Conversely,Dexter: Resurrectionhas gone out of its way to distance Harrison from Dexter. He has extreme remorse for killing Ryan Foster and doesn’t want to be a serial killer, which is the exact opposite of Dexter. He also wants to be a cop, not a forensic analyst, which is similar but very different from Dexter’s career as a blood spatter analyst.

Harrison’s similarities to Deb and Harry don’t end there, though. We’ve already seen Harrison be a lot more hot-headed, more genuinely charismatic, and make more mistakes than Dexter, which is just like Deb. He’s also a voice for good in Dexter’s life, just as Harry was and is.Harrison isn’t just inheriting Deb and Harry’s job, he’s inheriting parts of their personalities.
Resurrectionhas also setHarrison up to be something of a replacement for Deb. He’s Dexter’s only surviving relative (aside from Astor and Cody), he’s encouraging Dexter to be better, and he’s letting Dexter fill the caretaker role he used to have with Deb. Even though Harry and Deb are dead inDexter: Resurrection, Harrison is carrying their legacies forward.
