The wait forHollow Knight: Silksongisn’t over yet, but new gameplay footage gives fans something to hold them over until more information is revealed. The title was originally intended to be a DLC but has evolved into a much larger project, as developer Team Cherry chose to expand it into a full game.Silksongwas announced in 2019 with a planned 2023 release, but was delayed, followed by a prolonged silence from the studio.

After many years in development and practically no updates, fans will finally be able to get their hands on the most wishlisted game on Steam this year. Although today’sXbox Games Showcasedidn’t reveal any new information about the game’s release date,the stream did feature about half a minute of new footage fromSilksong,shown off sneakily as part of theXbox handheld device announcement.

But The Game Will Release Before Holiday 2025

Although there’s no release date forSilksongyet, Team Cherry’s marketing manager, Matthew “Leth” Griffin, has assured fans via the officialHollow KnightDiscord that the game will be arriving “BEFORE Holiday” and that “we are not tied to a console release.” This indicates thatSilksongwill be hitting stores before the release of the Xbox ROG Ally.

Silksongwill be available on the Game Pass when it launches later this year.

According to an official update on the Discord,Silksongwill be available on the Game Pass when it launcheslater this year—though it hasn’t been confirmed if the game will be a day-one title. As shown off in the trailer, the game will be playable on the Xbox Ally console when it arrives in the holiday season.

Silksongdidn’t receive its own spot in the Xbox Games Showcase today, perhaps because ofDeadpool’s intervention at the Summer Game Festpresentation on Friday. But eagle-eyed fans may have noticed that the video playing on the Xbox ROG Ally console during that segment of the showcase featured brand-new gameplay footage from the upcoming sequel toHollow Knight.In the new video, the game’s protagonist, Hornet, is shown slicing, slashing, and spin-attacking her way pastsome hopping four-legged skeletal creatures,andplatforming in a steampunk-inspired location with spinning gears.

All in all, only a few seconds of new gameplay footage were revealed in the Xbox ROG trailer, but it’s more info than fans have gotten in a while. With another showcase done without a release date,Hollow Knight: Silksongfans will have to wait a bit longer to finally find out when the game will be ready for them to actually play after years of waiting.
