Every new gaming showcase brings the hope thatHollow Knight: Silksongwill make an appearance, but hopes for its inclusion inNintendo’s Indie World Showcaseon August 7 may have been dashed. The long-awaited metroidvania from Team Cherry has become something of a white whale for fans of the originalHollow Knight, and new rumors point to the wait continuing.
Notable leakerPH Brazilcommented on Nintendo’s announcement of August 7’s Indie World, saying"If you only care about Silksong, you’d better not even open the stream"(translated from Portuguese via browser). The showcase will air on August 7 at 9:00am ET/6:00am PT, and just like every gaming presentation for the last few years, fans have been hoping this would finally be the one to revealHollow Knight:Silksong’s release date.

Leaker Claims Hollow Knight: Silksong Won’t Be In Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase
The Wait Continues
PH Brazil has a generally reliable track recordwhen it comes to the accuracy of their claims, and if you’ve been followingSilksong’s long development, its potential absence from the August 7 Indie World Showcase isn’t necessarily surprising, even if it’s another frustratingly missed opportunity. Developed and published by Team Cherry,Hollow Knight: Silksongwould be a prime candidate to appear at an Indie World presentation.
The Switch, and now the Switch 2, has become a key destination for independent games, andSilksongis expected to release on both systems. Even aside from its relative absence, the game has been frustrating fans this year.New footage was shownat Xbox Games Showcase 2025, but it was purely to promoteXbox’s new ROG Ally handheld– the gameplay clips offered practically no new information.

Next Hollow Knight: Silksong News May Come At Gamescom 2025
Later This Month
Despite the potential disappointment on August 7, it may not be much longer until more news aboutHollow Knight: Silksongarrives. ASilksongdemo will be playable at Gamescom, which is taking place between August 20 and 24 in Cologne, Germany. At the very least,hands-on impressions will be published after the fact by attendees. Since it’s making an appearance on the show floor, it’s also possible thatSilksongdebuts a new trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live.
Gamescom ONL doesn’t have the same high profile as its Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards counterparts, but it’s usually good for a few surprises. As far as anyone publicly knows,Hollow Knight: Silksongis still going to release in 2025, so a release date announcement should conceivably be coming soon. Practically everything involving the metroidvania is up in the air, though, considering Team Cherry’s silence. Just don’t hold your breath for news at the Indie World Showcase on August 7.

Hollow Knight: Silksong
Hollow Knight: Silksong is the long-anticipated sequel to Hollow Knight, the 2017 indie action-adventure Metroidvania hit. In Silksong, players will take on the role of Princess Hornet, a far more agile and combat-ready hero than the Knight in the previous title, with a stronger emphasis on aerial combos and gameplay. Stuck in a new strange land, Hornet will battle her way through all-new environments outside of Hollownest to find her way back while saving this new kingdom.
