Battles with Arlo, Cliff, or Sierra all follow the same format regardless of who you face. They will use three Pokémon in each battle out of seven potential Pokémon listed below. Their first Pokémon will be the same every battle, but their second and third choices will change each time you face them.

None of thethree Leaders, including Arlo, have changed their line-up since June 2025, so if you have recently taken them on, there are no surprises.Arlo provides the toughest test of the three, as no matter what Pokémon you select, you will struggle to have options that are super-effective against all of his seven Pokémon.However, a great team to go with isTherianThundurus,Ho-Oh,andGroudon,who are all powerful Pokémon that can still deal plenty of damage even if you don’t get a perfect set of matchups.
All of the Leaders Pokémon are all Shadow variants increasing their stats.
For battles against Cliff, starting with Ice- and Ground-typeMamoswinecan give you a huge advantage in the battle if paired with an attack of each of its dual types. The bestFairy-type inPokémonGO,Xerneas,can assist as it is also super-effective against five of Cliff’s Pokémon. Finally,TherianThundurusis a great third choice, using its Electric-type attacks.
Sierra is very similar to Cliff in that one Pokémon has an advantage over her lead and can go on to decimate her team.Swampertis another dual Pokémon as a Water- and Ground-type that can use both types of attacks to make quick work of Sierra.TerrakionandTyranitarboth work as great back-ups that can have an advantage over her other Pokémon.

Regardless of which of the three Leaders you defeat, you will receive very similar rewards.Straight after beating any of them, you willencountertheiropeningShadowPokémon, so either Horsea, Gible, or Trapinch, depending on which of the three Leaders you defeat.
You will also receive arare12kmRedEgg, as long as you have space in your Egg Inventory. You will need to walk the 12km to hatch it, but it can potentially be rare Pokémon such as Sandile and Pancham. Finally, you will also be given further items such as Max Revives and Max Potions, but these will be dropped at random with each battle.
