Team GO Rocket has returned for June 2025 inPokémon GOwith Boss Giovanni offering a host of new problems for trainers this month. As part of the recentPokémon GOCrown Clash Taken Over event, all the team Rocket members you can encounter have updated their line-up’s. These line-ups will stay the same for the start of June 2025, and are expected to remain this way as the current in-game season comes to an end.

Boss Giovanni remainsthe strongest AI opponentthat you can face inPokémon GO, with five high CP Pokémon with dangerous stats. To face Giovanni, you first need to defeat Grunts, as well as theGO Rocket Leaders Sierra, Arlo and Cliff. Once you have done this, the only way you will be able to overcome Giovanni is by being aware of his line-up and knowing the best team to counter it.

Fighting And Ground Types Key

Compared tohis line-up last month Giovannihas only made one change for June 2025. Despite the new in-game Team GO Rocket-based event, he will always use the same first four Pokémon as before. This means every time you challenge himhe will still start with his trusted ally,Normal-type Pokémon Persian. His second wave of Pokémon also remains the same. It will be chosen at random out ofPoison- and Ground-type Nidoking, Normal-type Kangaskhan or Rock- and Ground-type Rhyperior.

However, the big change for June 2025 ishis final Pokémon will now always beLegendary Dragon- and Steel-type Dialga.Dialga is one of the strongest Pokémon for theMaster League Cup in PvP matches.

Fighting, Ground

Despite his change in final Pokémon, you may use similar counters to previous months against Giovanni this month. You want to select a team that between them is super-effective against all of his five potential Pokémon. Fighting-types are key to this battle, and you should lead with one every time, as it will be super-effective against Giovanni’s opener Persian. There are a host of strong Fighting-type attackers inPokémon GO, buttwo of the best areMachamp and Lucario.

It is possible that Giovanni’s team could be made up of three Pokémon that are all weak to Fighting-type attacks. Out of his five possible Pokémon, only Nidoking is not weak against them.

You can alsouse a second Fighting-type Pokémon in your team,as Kangaskhan, Rhyperior and Dialga are also weak against their attacks. However, for a final Pokémon, a Ground-type is a great option. It is super-effective against the only one of Giovanni’s Pokémon that isn’t weak to Fighting-type attacks, Nidoking, but also has an advantage against Dialga. Using this makeup of Pokémon types mean that all three are super-effective against Giovanni’s final Pokémon, making it much easier to defeat. The best option for a Ground-type isLegendary Gen 3 Pokémon Groudon.
