After attending Fan Expo Boston 2025, I’m more frustrated than ever thatStar Warsfailed two brilliant actors who appeared in multipleStar Warsmovies and TV showswithin the last several years. It’s no secret thatStar Warshas struggled of late, particularly with installments like the sequel trilogy, which many still consider some ofStar Wars’worst movies.

There have been some clear victories as well, such asAndor, which is now largely viewed asStar Wars’best TV show. Yet, with many other DisneyStar Warsshows, the backlash has been quick, loud, and vitriolic from certain parts of the fanbase. Because of such reception, two keyStar Warsactors were completely fumbled, and that’s so disappointing.

I Witnessed How Incredible John Boyega And Temuera Morrison Are

Fan Expo Boston 2025 pulled multiple majorStar Warsactors, including legendary actors Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor, who held a double-feature panel. In addition to those stars, other actors from the franchise, such as John Boyega, Temuera Morrison, Giancarlo Esposito, and Manny Jacinto, were also in attendance and had panels.

I attended everyStar Warspanel at this event, and each actor was, of course, brilliant and a thrill to see. Yet,I couldn’t believe how incredible John Boyega and Temuera Morrison were specifically, and it only made their fates inStar Warseven more frustrating. During his panel, Boyega displayed a clear passion for and love ofStar Wars.

In fact, he hilariously shared how he had gone about ‘borrowing’ several things from the sets—enough that he joked about having an entireStar Warsmuseum in his house. This is particularly notable because Boyega has often been seen as hatingStar Wars, but it’s clear that’s not at all the case.

He also had a readily apparent depth of knowledge about the franchise, and his wit, humor, and insight made it clear why he deserved to become a major character inStar Wars. Likewise, Temuera Morrison was entirely captivating during his panel, even breaking into song at multiple points.

Like Boyega, Morrison was incredibly enthusiastic aboutStar Wars, both in terms of what he’d done on-screen, such as in his role as Jango Fett inStar Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clonesand as Boba Fett inThe MandalorianandThe Book of Boba Fett, and in terms of other movies and shows as well.

The level of appreciation, knowledge, and enthusiasm expressed by both Boyega and Morrison therefore exemplifies how great they are for the franchise (not to mention how skilled they each were in their roles), which only makes it all the more disappointing thatStar Warshas recently failed them.

John Boyega Deserved A Better Sequel Trilogy Arc As Finn

John Boyega had a great start as Finn inStar Wars: The Force Awakens. In that movie, as well as in the advertising, Finn seemed primed to become a major Jedi in the sequels, if not the most significant new Jedi overall. He even wielded Anakin Skywalker’s iconic blue lightsaber and went toe-to-toe with Vader’s dark-sider grandson, Kylo Ren.

Despite that excellent beginning, though, the sequels then infamously failed Finn (and Boyega, by extension) completely. Finn still had a significant role inStar Wars: The Last Jediin terms of the story, but the movie stepped almost entirely away from the notion that he could be Force sensitive.

On the other side,Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerdropped loose hints about Finn’s Force sensitivity—although it was never made explicit—but had largely sidelined Finn from the movie’s larger narrative, opting instead to focus on Rey and Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. In both cases, Finn was seriously underutilized.

This is now a pervasive complaint about the sequel trilogy, and it is among the more legitimateproblems with the sequel trilogythat angry fans cite. Finn and Boyega both absolutely deserved better, and Boyega’s panel at Fan Expo Boston 2025 only made me all the more frustrated that he wasn’t given more room to shine in the sequels.

The Book Of Boba Fett Should Have Been So Much More Successful

Like Finn and John Boyega,Boba Fett and Temuera Morrison were completely failed byThe Book of Boba Fett. To date,The Book of Boba Fettis largely regarded asStar Wars’worst TV show, and it remains the worst-rated of all DisneyStar Warsshows on platforms like Rotten Tomatoes.

Yet, this should have been a celebrated, monumental return inStar Wars. Boba Fett has been a fan-favoriteStar Warscharacter since he first appeared decades ago, and learning that he was being resurrected for a brand-new role (and a leading role, no less) was thrilling.

The thrill seemed to stop there, as one of the biggest complaints aboutThe Book of Boba Fettis that many viewers found it boring. This is about the story, though, and not at all about the acting. Both Temuera Morrison, as a wonderful actor, and Boba Fett, as one ofStar Wars’best characters, truly deserved so much better.

Could Boyega Or Morrison Return To Star Wars In The Future?

It remains to be seen whether John Boyega and/or Temuera Morrison will return to theStar Warsscreen, although based on the conversations taking place during their panels, they certainly seem open to it. There are also plenty of opportunities to do so. For one,Star Wars’upcoming TV shows, especially the live-action shows, are sparse at present.

It’s possibleThe Book of Boba Fettcould get a second season, although that’s likely a bit of a hard sell, given the reception of the first. Boba Fett could appear in other projects as well, though. In terms of John Boyega’s potential return, the most obvious choice would be one ofStar Wars’new movies.

More than likely, this would be either Rey’sStar Warsmovie or Simon Kinberg’s trilogy. Whether these returns will happen remains to be seen, but after seeing John Boyega and Temuera Morrison at Fan Expo Boston 2025, I sincerely hopeStar Warsbrings them both back in the future, as they absolutely deserve it.
