Fans Thrilled Over Demon Slayer 90s-Inspired Redesign

On Jul 28, 2025, X (formerly Twitter) user @Neko_no_geboku uploaded a video to the platform that depicted what the characters of theDemon Slayeranime would have looked like if the series had been released in the 90s. The video was heavily inspired by many ofthe industry’s best retro classics, likeHunter x Hunter,Inuyasha, andVampire Hunter D.

While most characters have a much different feel to them, the most drastic changes come from the protagonist, as Tanjiro and his friends look much more mature. The main character is far calmer and somber than in the original series, with most of his child-like joy and optimism hidden behind a serious expression.

Nezuko, Inosuke, and Zenitsu have also been given a more adult design, almost as if the show would have been far darker had it been released during this decade. Some characters retained their regal and imposing traits, such as the members of the Hashira and the main villains. The video quickly gained popularity among fans, who loved the concept.

This Version of Demon Slayer Would Be Quite Unsettling

Besides agreeing that this version ofDemon Slayerwould likelyhave changed the anime industryduring the 90s, a large portion of the community also came to a consensus on how terrifying the show would have been. The design of the characters does not evoke as much hope and joy as the original, as proven by Tanjiro’s calmer appearance.

This has led fans to imagine that, had the series been released during the 90s, it could have become one of the bloodiest andmost unnerving anime to ever be released. Despite this, most fans who shared their opinions on the idea were convinced that they would have loved to see this iteration of the series.
