Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #7

Star Warsreveals that mastery of a particular Force ability could have saved the Jedi fromOrder 66. InRevenge of the Sith, the Jedi Order was all but wiped out by secret contingency orders issued to the Republic’s clone army that activated their inhibitor chips, turning them against their Jedi commanders. However, one Force power might have saved them.

Grandea Using Jedi Mind Trick In Legacy of Vader #7

In Marvel’s new and canonicalLegacy of Vader #7,Kylo Ren encounters a surprising Jedi survivor of Order 66betweenThe Last JediandRise of Skywalker. Named Grandea, the elderly woman reveals she did not activate her lightsaber when the clones began murdering her fellow Jedi.Instead, Grandea relied on a Force power many dismissed as a simple trick.

One Order 66 Survivor Mastered The Jedi Mind Trick

Although many Jedi Knights viewed the mind trick as “undignified” or “unworthy”, Grandea reveals that this one Force power to influence minds ensured her survival for decades.Abandoning her lightsaber, Grandea only wielded the mind trick as she traveled the galaxy, surviving the entirety of theDark Times of Imperial ruleand beyond.

Likewise, Grandea reveals that her ability became stronger as she developed the life-saving skill, focusing only on mastering the Jedi mind trick so many had dismissed among the Jedi Order (when it could have very well saved them).

Grandea Tricks Imperial Inquisitors in Legacy of Vader #7

Soon, Grandea was able to influence anyone she wished, rather than only the weak-minded, including alien species known to be resistant, like Toydarians and Hutts. Anywhere Grandea went in the galaxy, she would make those around her forget she was ever there to begin with. It’s quite impressive, especially as a means of survival in the wake of Order 66.

The Jedi Mind Trick’s Full Potential Is Huge

However, the true potential and test of Grandea’s Jedi mind trick masterycame when the Empire finally found her.Facing two Imperial Inquisitors dispatched by Darth Vader himself, Grandea lost her leg and would have been done for had she not been able to manipulate both Inquisitors into thinking they’d already killed her.

Reporting back their “success” to Lord Vader without any doubt in their minds, Grandea was the true victor despite her injuries, having managed to influence the minds of other Force-sensitives. While it took her years to hone and develop the power, it’s amazing to see the Jedi mind trick’s full potential.

Had it only been more respected during the days of the Jedi Order, perhaps more Jedi could have evaded their demise during Order 66 with this Force power (one that’s clearly no mere trick).
