Without a doubt,The Last of Us: Part 2is easily one ofthe most highly anticipated horror games in recent memorydue to fans looking forward to finding out what’s happened to Ellie and Joel ever since the conclusion of the first entry in the series. In addition to the story campaign, it looks as if the forthcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive will also have a multiplayer component that allows players to customize their characters and much more.
According to a recent job listing for a Multiplayer Server Programmer at Naughty Dog, not only willThe Last of Us: Part 2have character customization in multiplayer, but also there will be an in-game store as well. What’s more is that other similar positions available at the company potentially indicate thatTLOU2will be using dedicated servers for the multiplayer. Of course, there’s always the chance that the developer pivots and decides that P2P servers are the way to go instead.

Per the Multiplayer Server Programmer’s job description, “You will usher [players] through the entire multiplayer experience, from first login, through matchmaking, and then granting rewards players can use to customize their characters in the store”. With this being the case, it’s quite possible thatThe Last of Us: Part 2will handle microtransactions somewhat comparably to the way in which they were done inUncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Taking all of this into consideration, it’s still unconfirmed as to exactly howThe Last of Us: Part 2’s multiplayer component will operate, especially since Naughty Dog has yet to even lock in an officialrelease dateat this point in time. With this being the case, the aforementioned details are still up in the air, and could always be altered later on down the line. At any rate, it’s a safe bet to make that most fans will have their eyes set on the tale that will be told in the single-player mod.
The Last of Us: Part 2is currently in development for PlayStation 4.
