At Lenovo.com, duh

Gaming laptops have come a long way in recent years. Gone are lower-powered dual-core CPUs and mobile versions of popular GPUs. These days you’ll get the latest quad-core picks along with desktop-level GPUs — plenty of horsepower to play all your modern games. On that front, Lenovo is now moving further into the gaming laptop space with its freshly introduced Legion gaming laptops (introduced earlier this year during CES 2017). We’ve debated themerit of the Y520before, and have come away with the impression that it’s a decent gaming laptop to look at for budding gamers in 2017.

Of the lineup, the Legion Y520 models are now available for purchase (in three configurations) and the price range is now at $920 to $1,250. You’ll be able to choose from Core i5-7300HQ models to a Core i7-7700HQ depending on your budget. All models come with a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GPU, which performs rather decently inmost benchmarksfor new 2017 titles. The laptop is quite respectable in terms of dimensions too, as the 15-incher is only 1.01″ thick.

Lenovo Legion Y520 Gaming Laptop

In terms of pricing, the $920 starting price is a bit on the high-end for a laptop with these specs, as comparatively you can pick up a Dell Inspiron 15 gaming editionfor quite a bit cheaperwith similar specs (though Dell’s display panel is apparently god awful). As a reference, Lenovo had originally listed the Y520 starting price at $899 back in its early-2017press release.

If you’re not in a hurry, we’d suggest sticking around and waiting for some form of discount to appear on Lenovo’s latest gaming laptop. You’re paying a premium for early adopter access, and unlike before the laptops do ship fast in one to three business days (except for the most expensive model which is looking at a four- five-week shipping time frame).

In terms of specs, the “middle” priced $1,179 model doesn’t appear to have anything significantly different than the “high-end” $1,249 model except for the storage space, so we’d suggest the cheaper model instead which is shipping a lot earlier. Interesting in learning more about the laptop? The spec sheet for the laptop can also be foundhere.
