Now, it seems the team behind the game is ready to expandMagic: The Gatheringin a way we’ve not seen before. After all, Dark Horse Comics just announced it has acquired the rights toMagic: The Gathering, and the deal promises to explore untold lore that fans have been waiting for ages to learn.
The report, which comes fromIGN, reveals Dark Horse Comics’initial plans forMagic: The Gathering.The publisher has a four-part miniseries planned for the franchise titledMagic: The Gathering: Untold Stories - Elspeth, and you can read its official synopsis below:
“Elspeth is dead. But her story is not yet over. The sun god Heliod, having grown envious of his champion, struck her down to the underworld. There, she is forced to relive the worst moments of her life for all eternity. But Elspeth does not submit to despair—she emerges from each conflict a greater hero than before. And for a great hero like Elspeth, what is death but another challenge to overcome?”

Elspeth Will Be The First Hero Dark Horse Comics Investigates

As fans know, death could not hold Heliod’s champion, butMagic: The Gatheringhas never explored the journey Elspeth took in the afterlife. Now, that is all changing, and Dark Horse Comicspromises to explore more of these untold talesin the coming months and even years.
As forMagic: The Gathering: Untold Stories - Elspeth, the comic is coming to life with help from writer Dan Watters and artist Owen Gieni. The project also includes creators such as Hilary Jenkins, colorist, and Clayton Cowles, letterer.
“I’m so honored to illustrate the story of these great characters and lore," Gieni shared in a new statement. “And Dan’s scripts are absolutely amazing, legitimately brilliant stuff. The only request I gave him at the start was to give me some of those epic Theros gods and monsters to draw, and he fully delivered with a vengeance! As for Wizards of the Coasts, the parent company that overseesMagic: The Gathering, the team is eager to see how Dark Horse Comics can expand the TCG Universe in the coming years. “Elspeth’s journey has always resonated deeply with our fans and bringing her untold story to life in this exciting new format has been a real creative highlight for us,” Jackie Jones, the Vice President of Creative forMagic: The Gathering, shared.
