Marvel’sThoris about to enter a bold new era, dealing with an entirely new paradigm as the God of Thunder finds himself reborn as a mortal on Earth, andthe author behind this striking shift for the classic hero just teased that “a potential new love interest” will have a role to play in his upcoming storyline.
In an interview with Comicbook.com, author Al Ewingplayed his cards mostly close to the vest when it comes to the upcomingThor#1, which spins out of the concluding issue of hisImmortal Thorrun.

According to Ewing, he will be able to more freely discuss the next “act” of his epicThorsaga onceImmortal Thor#25 is released, but before then, he was willing to drop a few hints, including the mention of a love story for the character, leaving readers little to speculate on, but lots to get excited about.
Immortal Thor#25, Written By Al Ewing; Art By Jan Bazaldua And Pasqual Ferry; Available July 28, 2025 From Marvel Comics
There is still another week before the release ofImmortal Thor#25, which caps off a two-year run that has already gone to great lengths to reinvent what it means to tell aThorstory in the Marvel Universe, while routinely recontextualizing classic elements from the hero’s lore. Above all else,Immortal Thorhas been marked by its high-level ambition, which is why fans were pleasantly surprised to learn it is only “Act One” ofauthor Al Ewing’s much larger planfor the God of Thunder.
“Act One” closes with the long-heralded death of Thor, while “Act Two” will find him resurrected as a mortal. Speaking with Comicbook.com, Ewing noted there are some “misconceptions” about the next era ofThorfloating around, though he deferred speaking more to this point until afterImmortal Thor#25 is out, saying the issue will clear up many of these. Ewing did, however, offer a few tidbits about what to expect, including confirming a romantic plotline, by stating:

But I feel like the real question behind the question is, “Does our protagonist have a potential new love interest?” He does!
Considering Thor’s Earth-bound mortality in the relaunched series, many fans immediately assumed this will be an average human character.

Thor’s New Mortal Paradigm And Potential Human Romantic Interest Call Back To His Earliest Days
Could This Be The Start Of A New “Donald Blake Era” For The Hero?
The idea of Thor being reborn as a powerless human is evocative of the early days of Marvel’sThorcomics, in which the hero’s true Asgardian identity was “locked” in the human form of Donald Blake, an alter-ego that was eventually dispensed with as Thor carved out hisplace in the Marvel Universe. This was also how the hero’s greatest love, Jane Foster, was introduced; initially, she was a love interest of Blake’s, and was later forced to grapple with the fact that she was actually smitten with a god.
So much of Ewing’s plan forThorover the next few years of his character journey remains difficult to prognosticate, which is why it continues to be one of the most exciting books Marvel Comics is putting out right now.
Given Al Ewing’s penchant for revisiting and remixing classicThorplot points,it is a good guess, at least, that he might be planning to deliver an updated take on this dynamic.Or at least, he might use this as a starting point for a new, unexpected take on romance for the Mighty Thor.
