As one of the most formidable members of Marvel’sNew Champions, the new character possesses incredibly substantial powers, reminiscent of Carol Danvers' abilities, but his origins clarify that he is a legacy hero with ties to another iconic Marvel superhero team.
InNew Champions#6, written by Steve Foxe, with art by Ruairí Coleman, while the New Champions team up with the Avengers to stop Magnetrix, it is revealedCadet Marvel is the son of a former member of Alpha Flight, Canada’s own national squad of superheroes. An interesting aspect of Cadet Marvel’s design is that it takes inspiration fromCarol Danvers’ era as Ms. Marvelopposed to her current status as Captain Marvel, with Emilio’s design sharing a striking resemblance to her now defunct black bodysuit. Similar to Captain Marvel’s old suit, Emilio dons a black shirt with a yellow lightning bolt on his chest and a red sash on his hip. However, his design also features a more modern iteration. With Kamala Khan sharing a stronger resemblance to Captain Marvel’s current color palette, Cadet Marvel’s design is the perfect way to pay homage to Carol Danvers’ past era.
Cadet Marvel has been noted to have an observably powerful punch with the full force of a jet engine, and his mother’s grave details that she was a sergeant in Alpha Flight, and is “always among the stars.”

Cadet Marvel was kidnapped, imbued with powers, and turned into a superhero, along with his New Champions teammates, by the infamous organization Hydra. Upon freeing themselves from Hydra’s brainwashing,the New Champions chose to remain togetherand become a legitimate team of heroes. Out of all the members of the New Champions, it appears Cadet Marvel is among their strongest, as he’s been shown to have powers that take significant inspiration from Captain Marvel.
Cadet Marvel has incredible superpowers, including strength, the ability to fly, and a certain level of energy manipulation, as seen when he charges his fists in a flaming ball of energy, increasing his strength and damage ability exponentially. While Emilio is not yet on par with Captain Marvel,the variety of his powers shows great potential and makes him a fitting hero to uphold Carol Danvers' legacy.Kamala Khan has long since taken up the mantle of Ms. Marvel, but Kamala taking Emilio under her wing would be a great way to bring Miss Marvel’s story full circle.
