There are many types of currency inMarvel Rivals, including Unstable Molecules, a new resource added to the game during Season 2.5. While you could only get Unstable Molecules by exchanging Lattice before, Season 3 introduces far more ways to farm the item. Since more unique cosmetics are beginning to cost Unstable Molecules, you’ll want to collect as many as you may while you play.

When they were first introduced, Unstable Molecules could only be used to purchasecustom colors inMarvel Rivalsfor specific costumes. Only a few characters had alternate colors to some of their skins, giving very little reason to spend real world money. I never used any of my Lattice on Unstable Molecules in Season 2, but Season 3 has given me many more reasons to start farming this currency often.

What Are Unstable Molecules In Marvel Rivals?

In-Game Currency For Buying Alternate Costume Effects & Colors

Unstable Molecules are the fourth major type of in-game currency inMarvel Rivals, similar in scope to blue Units or purple Chrono Tokens.Molecules are not to be confused with one-time currencies, such as Costume Coins or Accessory Points, the latter of which are also new to Season 3. Given how there are already plenty of currencies in the game, Molecules have been met with some backlash, especially when they couldn’t be spent on much in Season 2.

While Units and Lattice are used to purchase skin bundles, Chrono Tokens are spent to unlockBattle Pass rewards inMarvel Rivals. Meanwhile,Unstable Molecules and Accessory Points are the new Season 3 currencies spent on extra cosmetic itemsfor costumes you’ve already bought.

Unstable Molecules are spent on alternate colors for existing character skins, but only a select few of them for certain characters. In Season 3, Moleculescan also be used to buy Ultimate VFX, which changes the animation of a hero’s Ultimate ability.

Many players who get Unstable Molecules will find that they are very independent compared to other currencies in the game. For example, Units and Lattice can be exchanged in a 1:1 ratio with each other, with Chrono Tokens having the ability to be spent to gain blue Units as well. Unfortunately,Unstable Molecules can’t be converted from other existing currencies you already own, so they have to be earned separately.

Complete Event Objectives And Progress Through The Battle Pass

There are two ways to start collecting Unstable Molecules, including:

Several pages of the Season 3 Battle Pass offer Units, Lattice, and the new Unstable Molecules as rewards in exchange for Chrono Tokens. With players able to earn moreChrono Tokens inMarvel Rivalsdue to reworked progression systems in Season 3, this is the easiest way to earn Molecules naturally.

Daily missions have been removed as of Season 3, but Weekly Missions that offer Chrono Tokens remain until the mid-Season update if you don’t complete them right away. In addition, Seasonal Challenges are repeatable and last throughout the Season, giving you many new ways to earn more Tokens.

In-game events are also expected to offer Unstable Molecules in Season 3, but it is unknown just how many events will take place. Since Season 3 is shorter than the previous two Seasons, more events may occur at the same time, giving players various chances to get Molecules. However, these events are just as likely to offer other currencies, especially Units, which have been offered this way in the past.

Best Farming Methods For Unstable Molecules

Grind For Enough Tokens To Get Them All At Once

The best way to farm for Unstable Molecules is to take advantage of the ones available in the Season 3 Battle Pass. There are at least 500 Unstable Molecules in the Season 3 Battle Pass alone, with some being free rewards while others are locked behind the Luxury version. By purchasing the Luxury Battle Pass for 990 Lattice, you immediately gain access to tons of Molecules to spend however you please.

I’ve found that the best way to get Unstable Molecules in Season 3 is toalways participate in eventsand ensure you’re completing missions for Chrono Tokens. The Tokens will let you progress through the pages of the Battle Pass, opening up the sections where Unstable Molecules are being offered. Since you get 100 Unstable Molecules for 200 Chrono Tokens, you may farm a good number of them fast.

Depending on how upcoming events are structured, the number of Unstable Molecules you farm may vary. By using past Units offered as a reference,it’s likely you could farm up to 100–400 Molecules during an event, provided that you complete its missions by playing matches. These challenges will be similar to seasonal goals, but they may ask that you play a character you aren’t familiar with to meet various objectives.

Although you can’t earn this new currency as fast as Chrono Tokens, the abundance of ongoing events should make earning them somewhat consistent. The Battle Pass of Season 3 inMarvel Rivalshas the most amount of Unstable Molecules you can farm though, so make sure you collect as many as you can to store or spend on new cosmetics.
