Anyone who playsMarvel Rivalsprobably knows that, as fun as it can be, it isn’t a perfect game. Aside from consistent matchmaking woes, the game also has one major issue when it comes to balancing its heroes. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that this issue will be fixed any time soon, and it may even end up getting worse.

Balance is a huge component of any game with a wide roster of characters. Whether it’s a fighting game, or a MOBA likeLeague of Legends, it’s important that each character has specific strengths and weaknesses, so no one hero becomes too powerful. Hero shooters, likeMarvel RivalsandOverwatch, have a specific issue with balancing one type of character, and it’s something that hasbecome increasingly problematic when it comes toMarvel Rivals' roster of heroes.

Flying Heroes Can Be A Marvel Rivals Nightmare

Flying Heroes Are Hard To Hit With Projectile Attacks

Flying heroes inMarvel Rivals, or any hero shooter for that matter, present a unique challenge. They can consistently operate at a far distance from other players, and their free movement in any direction makes it difficult to hit them. To counter this, you will typically need to pick a hero with a hitscan attack, meaning their attack deals damage as soon as you hit the attack button, as opposed to shooting a projectile that enemies can dodge.

Right now, however,Marvel Rivalsonly has a few powerful hitscan heroes. While there are nine total, only Luna Snow, The Punisher, and Hela are considered top-tier heroes according toMarvelRivals.gg’s rankings. This can make counteringMarvel Rivals' flying heroes a bit difficult, and it’s an issue that will likely continue to get worse as time goes on.

Marvel Has A Ton Of Flying Characters

Many Marvel Comics Characters Fly And Some Are Already Rumored To Appear In Marvel Rivals

Marvel Comics is full of characters with the ability to fly, and some of them are alreadyrumored to be coming toMarvel Rivals. Possible new characters like Captain Marvel, MODOK, Jean Grey can all fly, and this is far from an exhaustive list of flying Marvel heroes. Popular characters like Doctor Doom and Sentry will probably show up in the game at some point, and I would be surprised if they weren’t also given flight powers.

Now, you could argue that more flying characters could potentially solve the issue of balancing flight. After all, if every team has at least one hero that can fly on it, then it shouldn’t be a big deal right? But the problem is that, whether or not there are options for dealing with flying heroes, their prevalence in the game means that they are constantly a factor that you have to considerwhen putting together a team.

Marvel Rivals Shouldn’t Be All About Countering Flight

Too Many Flying Heroes Makes It Too Big Of A Focus For Balance

The more flying heroes that are added toMarvel Rivals' roster, the more likely it becomes that balancing a team will revolve heavily around its ability to deal with fliers. Although it isn’t bad to have various things to consider when working on team composition, it is a little annoying when any one aspect of the game becomes too much of a focus. Balancing for flying characters already feels like a chore, and it will likely continue to become a bigger part of the game as more are added.

My hope is thatMarvel Rivalscan find ways to balance for flying characters that isn’t just needing to have one on every team. More powerful hitscan heroes would be one possible solution, as they would make playing a flying character more of a risky choice. It would also allow for more flexibility in team building instead of players feeling pressured to play one of the few good flying counters that are currently available. This is probably the best solution we can hope for, since I don’t think it’s likely we’ll stop getting flying Marvel characters.
