As Marvel totally reboots theScarlet WitchandQuicksilver, the powerful twins get new designs and updated powers, with some nasty twists on their traditional abilities. But this is just the beginning of reinventing these underrated characters…
Quicksilver’s speed now charges up his costume via friction, adding blasts of heat to his power set.

The New Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver Are Outright Villains
New Twists on Their Powers Make Them Even More Dangerous
In today’sTheUltimates #14- from Deniz Camp, Juan Frigeri, Federico Blee and Travis Lanham - Captain America and Hawkeye go up against Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. The young villains make for a terrifying team, beating Steve Rogers to a pulp while debuting extra superpowers. New designs also update their classic looks, with Scarlet Witch’s energy powers recreating her tiara in a new way.
While Quicksilver still has his speed - given as four times the speed of sound - his costume now uses the friction he generates to give him additional heat powers, charging up his glowing suit. Meanwhile,Scarlet Witch returns to her original superpowers, causing her enemies to suffer inexplicable bad luck, while also wielding powerful telekinesis.

Scarlet Witch has become a powerful magic-user, however her original misfortune powers are arguably more interesting…
Hopefully, the Villains Can Be Recruited to the Ultimates
In the new timeline of the Ultimate Universe, the X-Men and Avengers never existed. Instead, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver ended upunder the control of Emma Frost, who has trained them to become the ultimate corporate enforcers. When Captain America and Hawkeye hit a Roxxon pipeline, the twins are unleashed in a devastating show of power. Thankfully,Cap is able to use Quicksilver’s powers against him, tricking him into causing a fire that burns the oxygen out of his lungs.
The fight ends with the two villains unconscious, andCap speculating about whether the Ultimates can take them in and rehabilitate them. This mirrors Marvel’s mainstream lore, where Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch joined the Avengers after a short stint working as mutant terrorists alongside Magneto. However, in this case, the twins are given a frantic edge that makes their rehabilitation feel even more vital - these are heroes who were deliberately turned into child soldiers, and desperately need a second chance.

In Marvel’s mainstream,Scarlet Witch has become a powerful magic-user, however her original misfortune powers are arguably more interesting, causing events to fall apart in unexpected ways. Hopefully, this debut is just the first time fans will meet the two characters, asQuicksilver’s heat-boost andScarlet Witch’s probability manipulation are interesting concepts thatUltimatescould do a lot with.
