During a livestream celebratingMega Man’s 30th anniversary, Capcom announcedMega Man 11. It has been almost 8 years since thelaunch ofMega Man 10, so Capcom is making some changes. Namely,Mega Man 11will be the first game in the main series to abandon pixel graphics. ExpectMega Man 11to release in 2018 on all major platforms, including Nintendo Switch and PC.
Although this latest iteration features some changes, Mega Man will still be taking on Dr. Wiley and his berserk Robot Master servants. The major change will be toMega Man 11’s visuals. Instead of theretro 8-bit pixel look,Mega Man 11will feature “hand-drawn” characters and environments mixed with more typical 3D graphics in a 2.5D style.
Capcom does tease other changes coming inMega Man 11. The gameplay reveal ends with Mega Man launching a powerful blaster shot which results in a “cooldown” bar over his head. Exactly how this mechanic works, as well as any other changes planned forMega Man 11, will likely be revealed in the months to come.
In addition to announcingMega Man 11, Capcom had a few other surprises in store for fans of the franchise, especially for Nintendo Switch owners. In addition toMega Man 11releasing on Switch in 2018, bothMega Man Legacy CollectionandMega Man Legacy Collection 2will launch on the platform in the spring. That means the entireMega Manmain series will come to the platform in 2018.
If the mainMega Manseries isn’t your cup of tea, then Capcom’s second surprise should make up for it. Capcom will be releasing all eightMega Man Xtitles in summer 2018 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. More information will be released soon, but it appears that the games will be made available individually and not as a part of the collection.
