Some fans are dedicated to the games of their younger years and want nothing more than to experience them once again. However, it’s getting harder to find TVs compatible with older consoles, and backward compatibility is only available for so many titles. Luckily, some hardcore fans have taken it upon themselves to recreate the games they love in a more modern format, like Bear Parker, who is remakingMetal Gear Solidin the early-access release ofDreamson the PS4.

The remake is impressive and appears to be an incredibly accurate recreation of some of the locations inMetal Gear Solid, though running entirely within another game. However, Parker isn’t just remaking the game, but also remastering it in HD, giving many of the models and environments a fresh coat of paint for newer generations. Of course, there’s still a little bit of jank, particularly with how Snake moves, but it’s still incredibly impressive that Parker has been able to make this game withinDreams. It’s not the first project like this,Silent Hill 2was also remade inDreams, but it’s among the more impressive pieces currently on the platform.

It’s always inspiring to see how much time and care fans take to recreate the games of their childhood, and there are plenty of projects that demonstrate that care, though some do wind up getting taken down by their original creators. One of the more recent fan projects was theUE4 remake ofOcarina of Time, which is still making progress despite Nintendo’s track record of shutting down such projects.

It’ll be interesting to see how much ofMetal Gear SolidParker manages to create inDreams, and it would be a testament to both Parker andDreamsif the entire game is successfully recreated. There are plenty of other projects like this in the game currently, though to fans will need to knowhow to get into theDreamsearly-accessif they want to check them out. More projects are likely to emerge too, so it may be worth keeping an eye onDreamsto see what else pops up as it nears a full release.
