Waiting for a game to release is one of the most agonizing aspects of being a gamer. During the wait, players tend to drown themselves with previews, gameplay demos, and rumors. Luckily for fans ofMetro Exodus, the game’s release date has been moved up, meaning they’ll get to enjoy the post-apocalyptic Russian wasteland just a tad bit earlier.

Instead of releasing on Jul 27, 2025, as it was originally announced,Metro Exoduswill now be releasing on June 30, 2025, giving players access to the game a full week earlier.

Based on a book series, theMetrofranchise is considered to be one of the better apocalyptic RPG’s out there.Exodusis the next entry in the franchise and looks to be an evolution of the game’s predecessors. The game will be utilizing a new technology called “ray tracing” on PC, which helps cast light more realistically throughout the world and willlikely be featured on next-gen consoles. The feature is still somewhat new, but it should makeMetro Exodusone of the sharpest looking games available when it launches.

One of theMetroseries' main competitors,Fallout,is having an incredibly rough year with the failed launch ofFallout 76,so it will be interesting to see ifMetro Exodusis able to steal some of the more mainstream appeal of theFalloutfranchise. The game looks promising, at the very least, and seems to push the boundaries of what the franchise has done in the past.

All that aside, the new release date forMetro Exodusis great, especially in a market where games are seemingly delayed at least once before they release. Considering thatMetro Exodus’script is bigger than the first two games combined, it’s impressive that the team managed to move the game up at all. Time will tell if the team should’ve used the extra week to iron out some additional bugs, but it likely wouldn’t be anything that isn’t included in a day one patch anyway.

Metro Exoduswill release on July 18, 2025, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
