Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Resident Alien season 4, episode 10!
Resident Aliencreator Chris Sheridan addresses Mike and Liv’s future after the ending of the show laid out their next adventure.Resident Alienseason 4 endedwith Mike and Liv being offered jobs by the government to investigate aliens. They’ll continue working as police in Patience while being part of the secretive organization formerly led by General McCallister.
In an interview withScreenRantfor theResident Alienseries finale, Sheridan unpacked Mike and Liv’s future investigating aliens. The creator explained howit seemed like an apparent spinoff setup given how much could be explored. However, he hasn’t thought about the franchise’s future much beyond that, since the story the cast and crew set out to tell is over:

ScreenRant:So, okay, not that I want to immediately start talking about revivals and whatnot, but at the same time, you’ve set up Mike and Liv to almost have their own X-Files type series, and we’ve got Peter and Robert almost within that same organization to maybe team up with them. Have you had any serious sit downs and scribblings of where this universe could go beyond Harry and Asta’s story?
Chris Sheridan:No, not yet, it’s all sort of there, though. And I knew in writing that stuff with Mike and Liv, everyone’s going to think, “Well, that’s clearly the spin off, right?” It seems very obvious that that almost writes itself, whatever that’s going to be. So, there’s possibilities out there. I haven’t sat down to figure any of them out. I mean, the best version of all those is Resident Alien, and that just got finished. [Chuckles]

What Sheridan’s Response Means For A Mike & Liv Spinoff Show
At present, there’s no plans for thecharacters inResident Aliento have their stories continued in any capacity. Season 4 offered a definitive ending to the series, with Harry and Bridget leaving to go to Heather’s planet, with the protagonist raising his family together with her. Meanwhile, Asta is planning to leave Patience to tread a new path.
However, Mike and Liv have the most potential to return, since theirResident Alienseason 4 storyends with them being recruited by the government. Given their knowledge about aliens up to this point, it sounds like they’ll be core assets to investigations not just in Patience, but perhaps across all of Colorado. It’s unclear what missions they’ll be assigned.

Luckily, Sheridan recognizes the potential for a spinoff starring both characters, possibly bringing them face-to-face with even more alien threats. The show is finished, though, with its creator seemingly satisfied with how everything has ended. This makes it unlikely we’ll be hearing any concrete news about a new show anytime soon, despite the potential in place for one.
Our Take On Mike & Liv’s Future After Resident Alien
Now that Harry has left Earth, the only alien Patience has to contend with is the one who’s taken the form of Dr. Ethan Stone. However, he’s already becoming more enamored with human life, much faster than when the show’s protagonist came to Earth. Mike and Liv could start out keeping an eye on him before moving their focus.
Having this happen in anX-Filesformat could be interesting, as it would mean each week could explore the pair finding, monitoring, and confronting a different alien species. This could expand the world ofResident Alienwhile offering a fun dynamic that’s always been a central part of the original series' comedy, being a perfect continuation for the pair.
