The biggest hallmark ofGQuuuuuuXepisode #5 was the emotional drama that Machu and Nyaan went through. Not only did Nyaan get a dangerous burst of freedom as she unlocked her Newtype powers, even if it led to her killing someone, but Machu’s character was challenged as her desire to feel special was reaffirmed, only for it to be shattered as Nyaan made her realize she wasn’t as special as she thought.The growth Machu and Nyaan are going through is great to see, and sure enough, the fallout was appropriately messy.
All of that, of course, is what makes the series so great. Kazuya Tsurumaki and Yoji Enokido are known for creating great and eccentric coming-of-age anime likeStar DriverandtheFLCLseries, and ifGQuuuuuuXis looking to be more of the same, thenMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXworks so well by playing into the biggest strengths of the team behind it.Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #5 perfectly set the tone for the rest of the series, and fortunately, episode #6 was just as entertaining to watch.
What Happened In Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Episode 6?

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #6, “The Plot to Assassinate Kycilia”, picked up where episode #5 left off, with Machu discovering that Nyaan pilotedthe Gundam GQuuuuuuXwhile she was held up by Xavier. Machu just yelled at Nyaan without giving her a chance to explain why she piloted the GQuuuuuuX, and the next day,Machu saw Shuji and Nyaan hanging out together and having a good time without her, and further convinced that Nyaan had stolen her relationship with Shuji, Machu went home without even letting them see her.
Later, Machu’s mother confronted her about how she hadn’t chosen a career to pursue after high school, and with Machu still down in the dumps, she barely responded to her mother before storming out. Machu went to the Pomeranians to cool off, but when she got there, she overheard a shocking reveal:Annqi made a deal with Challia Bull to hand over the GQuuuuuuX and the Red Gundam after the Pomeranians’ next Clan Battle. Machu left without being caught, but with the knowledge that Shuji was in danger, she was left with even less idea of what was going on.
As all of that was happening, Challia’s forces learned that someone was planning to assassinate Kycilia Zabi when she came to Side 6, and Challia’s response to it all left Xavier suspicious about whether he was involved or not. What involvement Challia had, if any, was never clarified before the episode ended, but at the very least,the masterminds behind Kycilia’s assassination were revealed to be Bask Om and a duo of Cyber Newtypes, the group posing as Machu and Shuji’s next opponents in Clan Battle, and the episode ended with Kycilia finally making her way to Side 6.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXjust introduced a group of new villains, but for seasonedGundamfans, they’re anything but. InMobile Suit Zeta Gundam, the Earth Federation founded the military organization Titans to clean up any remnants of Zeon following the One Year War, but they quickly devolved into a xenophobic group that abused their power to oppress Spacenoids and planned to usurp the Earth Federation, as well. Bask Om and the Cyber Newtypes, artificially-created Newtypes, were major players in the Titans, soMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXis officially introducing new versions ofMobile Suit Zeta Gundam’s biggest villains.
While the Titans are as antagonistic as ever, their goals inMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’s timelineappear to be firmly aligned with the Earth Federation’s, with the assassination attempt on Kycilia framed as something the Federation, as a whole, wants, as opposed to being their own agenda. Future episodes might reveal that there’s more to them, but at least for right now,Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’s take on the Titans makes them a completely different sort of villains compared toMobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Is Getting Better And Better
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #6 marks the halfway point of the series, and it was an appropriately big episode. Between Annqi’s betrayal, the reveal ofGQuuuuuuX’s version of the Titans, and the setup of incoming political drama with Kycilia’s assassination,Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #6 lays the groundwork for an appropriately dramatic turn for the series. This is the clear turning point of the series, and how it plays out will determine how everything plays out for the rest of the anime.
Much of that success will come from how well it balances the incoming war drama with the ongoing teen drama. Most ofGQuuuuuuX’s story has revolved around Machu’s teen angst, and with how great the drama and character work of that has been,Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXwill only be truly successful if it can balance its character writing with its incoming war drama. With how great the writing has been so far, there’s little reason to doubt thatMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXwill succeed with that, and hopefully, episode #7 will more than deliver on that front.
